She wasn't freed because of possible cross contamination, but rather because none of the dna/physical evidence linked Amanda to the crime scene after an independent group reviewed all of the evidence. Also, they were able to eventually link all of the physical evidence to Rudy Guede who was convicted and is now serving 16 years for the murder. At that point, any other judicial system would have freed her and admitted a mistake. Instead you have a prosecutor who didn't want to be embarrassed and tried to save face by continuing to prosecute her on zero hard evidence. Her pointing the finger at Patrick initially was at the end of 14 hours of interrogation with no attorney and she was told she would never be able to leave unless she pointed the finger at someone.

The hard drive to his laptop was mysteriously destroyed by the prosecution/police, which could have at least corroborated their story. The 14 hours of interrogation by police with no attorney present was documented by the police, did you want me to get the police report to prove it to you?

Contamination or no contamination, every dna expert has come forward and said it would have been impossible for Amanda to have killed the victim in a violent struggle and left no physical evidence on the scene, no dna, no fingerprints, no hair fibers, nothing. Instead they find all kinds of evidence pointing to Rudy Guede, he was found guilty and is in prison, there is your murderer.
