Quick question about a setting up a number
Does anyone here get an area code from a different area than they are usually from. I live in the remote midwest and their is only one city in my state that skype carries an area code for. I was wondering if I should get an area code in from somewhere in California, say San Jose.
I plan to move out in that area eventually. What does everyone here think about that? |

Depends what you need it for I guess? I moved back to Canada, and kept my magicjack area code in FL so my US friends can call on their cells whenever they want. Works for me. I have my cell phone with my local area code for any friends, businesses etc that need to reach me via a local call.

If you can do that through something like Google, VOIP, or some third party service I would tell you to go that route.
Otherwise, you are talking about establishing a call forward number through a telephone company, in San Jose as an example, which forwards to your cell. Long distance charges would apply, and that could get pricey. You could do it the classic telephony way between exchanges, and it would cost you a mint. The jargon for it escapes me at the moment. You could contact a tech center or office part, and set up a virtual office in San Jose, and give people that number. They could answer the phone and get you messages at that number and you call them back. Not the best solution, but depending on your long term plan it's an option. Good luck chief. |
