15,000 people in the USA were killed in 2008 by these pills.

http://news.yahoo.com/deaths-painkil...160401910.html

Quote:
Prescription painkillers such as OxyContin, Vicodin and methadone led to the deaths of almost 15,000 people in 2008, including actor Heath Ledger. That's more than three times the 4,000 deaths from narcotics in 1999.
Gotta get all those marijuana dispensaries closed!

Yep...prescription drugs kill more people than cocaine, heroin, crank and every "illegal drug" put together.

Number one...the govt. shouldn't have the authority to tell us what we can and can't put in our own bodies and what I choose to unwind with at the end of the week.

Number two...the sheer hypocrisy and greed of the govt. holding hands with pharmaceutical companies is outrageous.

My 28 year old best friend has pancreatic cancer (was in remission but found out two weeks ago its back) and is prescribed fentanyl and 120 MG a day of oxy.

About a month ago he finally got his medical smoke license and is consuming it via brownies. He is now down to 30 mg a day of oxy and isn't using his fentanyl patches.

You can't convince me otherwise ... marijuana is an incredible medicine.

I tried Vicodin when I broke my foot and had to stop. Way too good and sucks when you not on it.
No wonder people so addicted to that stuff.

So the chemical laiden pills are killing people and the government doesn't care, but the natural plant that causes no deaths is illegal and causing our government to spend $1,800.00 per SECOND everyday?? Yeah thats logical..

Firstly, Sorry to hear about your friend's struggle with cancer. Pancreatic cancer is no walk in the park. The good news is he is young and CAN win this battle.

I really wish more people, doctors, officials and media outlets would promote the benefits of THC and CBDs. It's finally been proven to be a cancer preventative, better pain relief medication, better anti-depressant, better anti=psychotic and even has ability to reverse some forms of lung, intestinal and stomach cancers in early patients.

I have stomach problems. Docs still have no fucking clue why I cant shit for a weeks at a time, then no issues then returns over and over, Cramps, pain, weakness, extreme bloating etc etc. A colonoscopy and upper endoscopy shows ZERO issues. Perfect health.

When my symptoms appear I smoke a big fat j,, get heartburn for 30 mins then all pain is gone, stomach returns to normal function and I take a great big old shit

It's also helped me cope with depression, anxiety and has allowed me to be 95% mentally functional. All the meds in the world could not do this for me and I've been on many since I was 13.

Someone please tell me why this should remain illegal and I'll punch them in the fucking face!

Maybe you mean Tylenol Codine, because I think that one was abused a lot.

What are the strongest and most addictive ones over Vicodin?

I'm just not that familiar with pain killers or any kind of "downer". I'm more of an "up" kind of guy and like to go, go, go.
Matter of fact...when I had a car crash and my neck was broken, I got out of the hospital after a month with a bottle of Oxycontin with a bunch of refills.
I flushed them down the toilet and never looked back.

Downers are just kinda lame to me.

LOL! I didn't think about that! heh-heh

But yeah...I have flushed an eight ball before as well. Sometimes I do stupid shit like that just to "test" myself and make sure that I'm really just partying and nothing has me by the balls.

In my opinion when it comes to prescription/synthetic opiates then Oxycontin, Morphine, and Methadone would top my list of most powerful/addicting. I had heard a lot about Fentanyl being really strong but the few times I tried the 100 ug patches I wasn't too impressed (this was all recreational use though so I'm sure it probably works well for pain).

Sorry to hear you broke your neck! Yeah I hear ya on the upper thing, I wish I had been more of an upper person because I started with prescription narcotics and quickly switched over to heroin because it was much much cheaper and more stronger but also very addicting. I wish I had never tried it in the first place.

This thread is not about the danger of the pills but the abuse of the pills causing danger.

But thanks for stating the obvious that medicine helps people.

Without you we would never have known.

Oh, I hear that!

I broke my leg and because I wanted to see the best doctor in town I had to wait
until the next day to get treatment. I got some pain pills but on the way home
they fell out my pocket and I lost them.

The pills were so strong that I was supposed to wait until I was home before taking
them.

But it's like the body kicks in it's own pain relief so I never took any pain medicine
at all while my leg was broken.

But I will say that there are different kinds of pain and while that worked for a broken
leg I doubt like hell it would work for someone with a migraine.

I know that while I was in the hospital for a month...I was on a morphine drip. And that shit kept me floating on a cloud.

By the time I got home I didn't want to "float" anymore. I wanted to live in the here and now.

And yeah, you're right about headaches (also toothaches, etc.)
I started having tremendous headaches at the beginning of the year. And NOTHING would touch them. It hurt so damn bad I was almost incapacitated.

Finally went to the doctor. He told me I was having "stress" headaches. And basically there are little muscles in your forehead and around the back of your eyes. Those muscles had constricted and were kind of inflamed and "stuck".

He gave me some Naproxen (anti-inflammatory) and a mild codeine pill. And it worked like a charm.

When I get a "stress headache" I first try "acupressure" most of the time it seems to
work. But there are some headaches where acupressure just can't do it.
Gotta go for a pill then.

Acupressure might sound silly to some people, but if they consider what you said about
the muscles being constricted, then the acupressure is simply forcing those
muscles to relax and thus the headache goes away.

For a long time I was against legalizing hard drugs. I have always thought pot should be legal even though I only smoke it about every 3-4 years. But the more I see how much money we waste fighting a drug war we can never win the more I think we could probably take 10% of that money and it would deal with the addicts that having it all legalized would create.

I happen to think the free market would actually control rampant drug abuse. Take my brother for example. He works in a construction field and they do some stuff on roofs and scaffolds and big ladders. If there is any injury at all on the job site everyone there has to take a piss test. If you come back positive you are suspended without pay for 30 days. 2nd offense is 90 days and 3rd is you are fired. Many companies would still drug test to get job so if you wanted to work for any of these companies you would have to avoid the stuff.

Yeah Fentanyl is amazing for pain control. Makes my life so much more manageable and nothing beats only have to change it once every few days.

I have no experience with abusing it but it works wonders for pain management. Its also nice to have constant relief and not pop pills.

I also haven't built a tolerance as I've been on the same 50 mcg/hr dose for over two years I think. Doesn't create any fuzziness, etc. which I also appreciate.

Only downside is there is nothing stronger and if I were to do something like get into a car accident it would practically be impossible to treat the additional pain.

Thanks. He just started chemo again today and is an emotional wreck but I spent three hours on the phone with him tonight and he seemed to be in better spirits when hanging up.

He says he feels like I am the only one that can remotely relate to what he is going through so he is more open with me and says things he won't say to others (like discussing his fear of death).

Once he went into remission they were doing the battery of tests every two weeks so they caught the new tumor early again.

Luckily he had a unbelievably huge inheritance so he pays out of pocket for the very best care. He's been extremely lucky and has the resources to fight it with the best care so we remain optimistic.

But i noticed that potsmokers who think weed is a magic plant always "forget" stuff like this.
I'd be interested in some unbiased stats...

Me too. Too bad they probably don't have them. But then again anybody with at least an average iq realizes that many people every year must die because of traffic accidents where weed is involved.

Once he went into remission they were doing the battery of tests every two weeks so they caught the new tumor early again.

Luckily he had a unbelievably huge inheritance so he pays out of pocket for the very best care. He's been extremely lucky and has the resources to fight it with the best care so we remain optimistic.
Well, lets hope for the best for him then. That's all anyone can do. This is one of the worst forms of cancer and a hard one to fight. He fought it the first time.. he can do it again!!!

Yes they are worse, but most people already know that.

I posted a thread two days ago about a high school football player dying from
alcohol poisoning.

yet you can't even find one actual death ? anyone with at least an average iq finds this very doubtful

i am sure medication of all sorts does occasionally cause accidents.. as does loud music, screaming kids and cell phones.

Does it ( marijuana deaths) compare at all in any way with deaths caused by legal drugs/alcohol ? no

Anyone notice the story this week about how Bubba Smith died from an overdose of OTC diet pills? So much for safe, herbal weight loss.

Had a cousin the died from a mix of vicodin and fentanyl, but she was just prescribed the fentanyl, and the doc either didn't tell her or she didn't understand not to take the vicoden and fentanyl at the same time. Her 10 year old daughter came home from school and found her dead.

Addiction? Pot isn't addictive. People do get into the locked habit of doing it, but even people that work out, or work too much, etc can get locked into a habit and feel broken when the pattern of life is broken.

Glad it's working well for your pain, sorry to hear about your situation. Not to mention it's much "cleaner" I guess you could say...I hear about so many people popping tons of Vicodin and stuff every day for pain and that must wreak havoc on their liver with all the APAP in it. It's also too bad the US doesn't follow the UKs lead and prescribe heroin to people in extreme pain because I bet it would work wonders for people that really need it for pain and would use it as prescribed.

Once again, you have to be REAL fucking ignorant if you think there are no deaths because of smoking and driving. And i really mean REAL FUCKING ignorant.
Even a 8 year old would understand this.

A dumb bitch wrecking and dying after smoking weed is still a dumb bitch that would
have wrecked and died without smoking weed.

They died while texting, but blame it on the weed.
