Family loses daughter, job, home in a week

Very sad......

AURORA - After losing a job, a daughter and a home in one week, an Aurora family is asking: Why?"

The night before Thanksgiving, 15-year-old Kayla Freeman was in Missouri spending time with her dad. They were on their way to church, when Missouri State Patrol says Kayla's father tried to pass another vehicle.

As he moved into the other lane, Missouri State Patrol says another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction slammed into Kayla's father's car. Kayla was killed instantly.

Miles away in Colorado, Kayla's mother, Dawn Linstrom, learned of her daughter's death.

"It was the hardest thing you can ever see someone go through," Ruth Castellano, Kayla's aunt, said.

Dawn Linstrom and her daughter were close. Castellano says they were so close, you could barely separate them. She says it was difficult to hear her sister cry.

"That cry alone is the worst thing you'll ever hear from her. Just crying, wanting her baby back," Castellano said.

The crash happened Wednesday evening. Two nights later, Linstrom decorated her room with pictures of her daughter. She lit them by candlelight.

When guests arrived at her home, Linstrom went upstairs. She left the candles behind. About 15 minutes later, she smelled smoke and then saw flames.

"The entire house was engulfed," Castellano said. "There was no way to put it out."

Less than 48 hours after her daughter was killed, Linstrom lost her home.

"They lost everything. Everything went up in flames. Not just losing a daughter, but losing your house. And everything that's in your house. Your photos, videos of your daughter. Everything," Castellano said.

To add to the pain, a week before Kayla was killed, her stepfather lost his job.

Without a job, a house and a child, Linstrom and her husband are struggling.

A fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Banks in Colorado. Donations can be made to Dawn Linstrom c/o Kayla Freeman.

A funeral will be held for Kayla Friday in Lakewood.

Naked came I out of my mother's womb,
and naked shall I return thither:
the LORD gave,
and the LORD hath taken away;
blessed be the name of the LORD.

Really tragic.

Let me be Mr Obvious, they have two options:

1 - They will not keep their faith and ask "what kind of god is this?"

2 - They will keep their faith and maybe will increase it even more because "god writes straight on crooked lines"

If that happens again I'd recommend going straight to the shopkeeper or to a policeman

To bad for the daughter, to bad for the people in the car they hit head on. Life is tough enough sometimes without adding gross negligence to the mix. Improper passing and setting your own home on fire are fuck ups not acts of God.

Everyone does stupid shit at some point. Most of the time we don't pay the consequences, but when we do it sucks.

I feel compassion for the father who killed his daughter in that accident. I also feel bad for the mother who lost her daughter, and the next day, accidentally burnt her house down. I can't imagine the emotional and spiritual pain she's feeling.

Thankfully the girls 14 year old brother, Nicholas Freeman, survived the accident with moderate injuries and his father, the driver, had no physical injuries.

Anyone that would make such remarks most likely has very limited life experience and depends on others to exist which makes you incapable of understanding and having empathy of someone in this situation. Either that or you're the first perfect human ever.

There's no "why". People always try to give meaning to things that don't have any.

That's a little harsh, don't you think?

I don't know any more about the car crash than what's been written here, but I do know that close calls on the highway happen to everyone at one time or another... well, maybe everyone except you.

As for the mother who left the candles unattended, I don't think it would be all that big of a stretch to suggest that maybe, just maybe, she was thinking less clearly than usual on that particular day.
