Where to buy old laptop ram and long computer cables???

I bought my woman a $50 laptop .. It has the old 3.0ghz HT P4 which I know is junk .. but for $50 it is a great stable little laptop .. but the memory is $60 for two 1gb sticks!!! Is there ANYWHERE I can get it for around half that? It only has 640mb in it and can go to 2gb ... which would help a lot .. Can't find shit on CL or EBAY

Also I need long ass VGA and HDMI cables and probably some composite cables .. 40' .. probably have to buy 50' .. is tiger or newegg my best bet for that?

I'm not sure that VGA or HDMI cables can go that long due to signal attenuation

You might try http://www.crucial.com/ just in case.
I have used them previously for more RAM.

Doing some reading .. I think it'll be okay for the vga and composite .. but maybe not for hdmi

And of course if I buy cheap cable who knows what will happen even at only 40'

I think it'll be okay .. at worst I will return the cables and buy better ones, or buy a repeater or amplifier or whatever those things are ..... I think my biggest concern is getting blu ray movies through the 40' hdmi cable (it sounds like the vga and composite will be fine at up to 100')

Supposedly vga does better for long runs than dvi .. but now I find out there is no vga, just dvi on the tv .... so what is better, just use dvi or maybe a dvi to vga adapter at the computer ?

Ah! They actually have 40' hdmi cables! 25 is too short and 50 is 25% longer than what I need (big signal difference, I'd imagine)

Good prices too ... thanks!

That built in equalizer thing on some of the cables looks like a great solution

You need a degree to do this shit ... http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 this cable looks great but will only do 1080i and 720p ..... won't a blu ray player send 1080p?

Sigh

I would check ebay for ram.

New ram is expensive, because it's new and no one makes it. Then more computers use it, more companies make it, and it gets dirt cheap. Then newer computers get new types of ram, companies start making that one, and the old ram gets expensive because no one makes it anymore.

I own a computer store and have a lot of older RAM that has usually been pulled from a machine being upgraded or scrapped ...

If you can tell me the exact RAM you need - or give me the make and model of the lappy so I can look it up - I might have some RAM around here I will let go cheap ...

As far as the cables, you are on your own ... I would try DealExtreme.com maybe for cables?

It's an HPZV5000 which should accept a maximum of 1gb per slot (One under the keyboard, one under an access panel) .. Should be 200 pin DDR PC2700 "DDR333" .. do you know if shipping from canada is expensive?

Dealextreme has amazing prices, but I don't have paypal .... sigh .. or do they take CCs now?

Thanks!

Why don't you just get her a cell phone ? It would have more RAM and processing power and usually got HDMI out too. You can hook it up to a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and you are set to go

That sounds accurate, I never heard anyone anywhere mentioning that Jesus had money so he was likely broke.

Let me loo through my stock .... I ship to US all the time, so shipping is not a problem ... maybe $8-10 insured ...

You do realize that you can opt to pay for any paypal purchases with credit cards right? There is a link below where they ask you to sign in to your paypal account that says "Pay using a credit card"

OK .... I went through my inventory, and all I have in older laptop memory is 2 x 1GB PC2 5300S (240pin). Sorry bro but I tried.

I've checked ebay and my suppliers, and it looks like there is no bargains to be had ... those are $30 chips any way you slice it ...

tigerdirect like was mentioned already and newegg.com too but I think $60 for 2 gigs is as good as you will see for DDR333 2700

A 3GHz P4 HT in a laptop? Those things use around 150W when they're fully loaded... battery life and exhaust heat on that lappy would be "interesting"

LoL - I should realize that because I paid for my ebay buys that way the other day .. I just didn't know paypal processed CCs w/o paypal accounts if it wasn't for an ebay transaction ..

Thanks for looking

Definitely tough to find for under $30 a pull Oh well .. I'll be patient and CL will come to the rescue

PS: 3ghz P4 is a pretty hot chip, and being the old POS that it is it's pretty much always running at 100% .... I never did like the P4 , I remember the first week they came out I bought one I think it was 1400mhz?? My Athlon T-Bird 1333mhz was superior but I kept burning them up .. the good news for the P4 laptop is the battery doesn't work anyway ..
