I don't know, but for every good affiliate rep out there, there's a hell of a lot of shitty ones as well.

Would you say the typical affiliate rep earning 50k+ for several years has the skills by that point to make a good living as an affiliate (+ webmaster referrals)?

It's been discussed at length many times over the years on GFY. The end result was $24-36k a year base pay, plus incentives for most of the adult industry. It's not to say there is not a rep here or there making a decent coin at a bigger program, but they are the exception, not the rule.

* Standard affiliate rep makes 10%. A "star" will make more.

* they make around 2 to 3 K a month, depending on their skills

* I would say it could be from $24k up to $100+k a year

* Out sourced: $18k - $22k a year plus a commission that can grow. In House: $22-$30k - with benefits no commission - without benefits then a lower commission.

Help me figure out where my thinking is wrong. I'm thinking the rep could likely earn better than a salary by freelancing across all sponsor programs with webmaster referrals, but especially those that offer years of recurring income. A seasoned affiliate rep also has the inside knowledge from the sponsor perspective, but also the higher earning affiliates.

You did not say a "seasoned" affiliate manager (i.e. Wizzo).

I bet someone like a Wizzo or Kristin is making the high end of the scale for an AM/AR. With their vast knowledge, and experience they have earned a higher pay scale. Where the vast majority of AR's would be in the $24-36k annual base salary average with commission incentives. Which appear to be 10%+ of their affiliate's revenue.

In short, their positions are performance based, as they should be.

There are very few in-house affiliate reps these days that are just affiliate reps. Most have additional duties that used to be handled by other full time employees.

Many things with many people tend to be at least partially and sometimes almost entirely circumstantial. Maybe some reps are doing something like what you mentioned to some degree, maybe some aren't. Different people do different things for different reasons.

True dat. Many are doing more than a traditional "AR" duties.

It reminds me of when I worked in radio years ago, and the 'program director' also produced the ad spots, and held down a DJ shift as well. More a less doing three jobs for one pay check.

I am for hire right now at $1000 a month and I will advertise like crazy for you.

My husband was recently burned up all over his body in an acid chemical explosion at work and has been off work for almost a month.

I need a part time or full time job marketing/advertising asap.

If anyone is hiring I would appreciate the chance to apply. :-)

Always wondered that too.

Although I assume some peeking behind the scenes of their affiliates might be a bonus.

There are very few "Affiliate Reps" in this industry now. They are required to wear more hats these days to earn the base they would like. The days of hiring a hot rep to bang all the big affiliates is over.

Im working with another webmaster to start his affiliate program. I think I have unique experience and skills, that are not necessarily cultivated online. I have owned my own brick and mortar business, and worked as a affiliate for 2 years. I cant show you big traffic or sales as an affiliate (yet) but I have some great ideas that are definitely outside the box in adult. If someone has a need for a person you dont have even pay what the average affiliate rep earns ( i can start work for 10-15k a year, seriously ) and has a high ceiling and motor hit me up to hear more of my pitch.

I knew a program owner who always hired ex-pornstars to be his affiliate manager. Her most important job would be to go to shows, find big affiliates and sleep with as many as she could get to sign up.

That's about right. When I worked for CEN years ago, we received a salary, and commission on how much traffic we generated each month.
