Moving Email?

Does anyone have any experience of moving email.

I have been with my ISP for several years but would like my own domain.com email address.

I know I could download the existing emails from web to desktop using Outlook or Thunderbird and I can tell people I know that my address has changed.

My worry is the 100's of websites that hold my email address for password reminders, newsletters etc etc.

What is the best way to transfer emails to a new address?

Also would you use your own hosting company or is it possible to tie a domain.com email to something like gmail?

yes, its possible to tie to gmail
and the only way to keep receiving mails from your old contacts - keep your old email adress active but resend all the letter to the new address automatically.

respond with the new address and try to start chaging your email in all those 100+ sites... Several years later you will be able to delete your old address.
