Montrealers : Tell me where I should live in your city.

I will be spending June, July, August in MTL working on a project. My work place is around Saint-Laurent and Prince-Arthur. I believe its the 55 bus line. I will not have a car and I do not plan on cooking either.

Any recommendation on where I should live. I am kind of confused because if I live in old-port then I am told eating out will be an expensive option, if I live around the Saint-Laurent street then I am told its a noisy place and I will never get to sleep.

Thanks

Jay

Prefer to walk to work, max 15 to 20 min but I am good as long as I can catch the 55 bus ...so either on the 55 bus route or walking distance to a metro that is on the green line so I can take the 55 bus from Saint-Laurent.

Montreal sucks. If you're not fluent in French forget about moving there.

You don't need to be fluent in French to live West of St-Laurent Blvd.

Since you are only staying for a few months, Mile-Ends, Le Plateau and McGill Ghetto is your best bet. There are plenty of places there that offer short term leases.

It looks like a lot of furnished deals in and around McGill from Students and profs leaving for summer. I have spent few weeks in MTL and not speaking french is not an issue at all.

Montreal has a heavy duty tourist industry - not knowing French is irrelevant. We generally aim to serve a varied and cosmopolitan clientele ;)

Try looking for places one street east or west of St-Laurent blvd. - Clark or Saint Dominique. I used to live on Clark at Rachel and it was great - you had the cultural activity and bar scene one block away, but a surprising contrast of quiet and good location within a sixty-second walk.

Prince Arthur is about a ten minute walk from Rachel - but any place between Rachel and Sherbrooke is good - above Rachel gets a little industrial and dank with closed up shops. And the further from Sherbrooke street you are the better - it's like the busiest street in Montreal, with traffic 24/7 and where every friggin vehicle with a siren will head to cut across the city.

I used to live off Sherbrooke street and the number of police, fire, ambulance and whatever you heard on a daily basis, especially in summer for some reason, was insane - and that's on top of the general run and rumble of all kinds of traffic. Stinks of exhaust when you open windows too...

Just a two-cents for ya...

Welcome to Montreal btw! You're gonna love the women...

:D

My budget is 1500 for a studio. If I spend more then that then I will not have any money to spend on women and drugs.

Women in Montreal are free and drugs is cheap but if you still only want to spend up to $1.5k, this may be for you http://www.louer.com/3450c/ If I was you I would spend $500 for nicer accommodation.

I would suggest finding a place in Mile End or the Plateau. Lots of great bars, restaurants, venues, great places to meet people. 1500 will get you something pretty nice in these neighbourhoods and it's right along the 55 line.

I second Mile End's choice. You won't be able to stay home at night. Too much fun all around. Just get a Bixi pass and you're set for the summer

Don't live in Montreal. Wait till these damn protesters who protest anything stop running around everywhere.
Also, Diablo III is coming out in May15th, so the students will probably return to their habits.
