File lockers providing backdoor access to the FBI etc
I know for a fact that file lockers and hosts are routinely asked by the FBI and other three letter organizations to give them full backdoor access to their servers, and in return get preferential "buddy" treatment ie: being left alone and not harassed by law enforcement.
I also know that all of these services would be stupid to refuse, and they basically always grant access to such requests. I think a lot of the users of these sites are unaware of this, and would be offended to know about the "deals with the devil" that the site owners make, throwing their users and their privacy under the bus to keep the bus rolling and the funds coming in. Maybe something for AdultKing et al to bring up. I wrote to TorrentFreak asking them to do an article about this, we'll see if they do. |

I fear it is PR-wise counterproductive to send a message like: "File lockers routinely work with law-enforcement to isolate bad apples".

I wouldn't be surprised if a few did. But it doesn't do them a lot of good to publicize that info.

I do not call government issued 'subpoenas' on specific client(s) being a "buddy" of any kind.
I believe it's called legal compliance. ![]() |

And why does this surprise you?
Of course they do, nobody wants to get the FBI on their ass for hosting CP

I assumed the entire point of his post was that the Feds were (according to him) provided with permanent access without the need for a court order.

I can't make any comment on this or anything related to operational matters involving Copy Control or other authorities that may or may not be involved in the mitigation of piracy.
