![]() I am looking for any good vegan style cookbooks. I keep hearing and reading about how they have all of these delicious recipes with vegetables and non-meat entrees.
While I admit it's hard to phantom a life of no beef/chicken/steak in a daily diet, I'd like to give a few recipes a try. I figure it can't hurt to get a more diverse diet, especially considering I am not much of a fish eater. I have never cared for seafood. Fire away ladies. ![]() |

Not sure if you mean vegan or vegetarian or some other variation.
I'm a vegetarian that will eat dairy products but nothing else derived from animals. Haven't bought a cookbook in many years due to the information provided by the internet. Couple of sites to get you started. http://vegweb.com/ http://allrecipes.com/Search/Default...&fo=0&wt=vegan

I guess I am looking for some recipes or a cookbook where you are working in more vegetables into your diet for your meals. Assume I am at ground zero in the learning curve. I want to see if any of this stuff looks good, and if so, try and work more into a weekly menu on some level. Thank you for the links. ![]() |

some interesting ones on here http://whfoods.com/recipestoc.php#vegetarian
I'm not a vegetarian but love some vegetarian dishes. Switching things up makes it easier to eat healthy i find. Have you given up on seafood completely? I find most people who don't like it usually aren't eating it at the right places. Although it's tough finding fresh stuff in our parts..

I cook most of my own food from scratch but love Flame Grilled Boca Burgers plus some of their other products.
Quorn also makes some decent stuff.

I do not like that "fishy" taste. Although I still do try and work some into my diet, like tuna, as they claim it's good for you. I can't tolerate it more than 1-2 times a week however. That being said, I have managed to get the daily fruit worked in between smoothies and what not. I now want to work in some more veggies, and cut out some of the meat. I figure every little bit helps and it's all about moderation. ![]() |

I went to a vegan restaurant, food was very bland. I thought the desserts looked good. Have a chocolate cake looking thing with a caramel topping. I gagged, they don't use milk, the caramel topping was salty, it was dry to boot! Nasty!!!

You can just eat a cookbook for the vegan experience as that's about what the vegan dishes I've tried a few times taste like.

My wife is vegetarian. It's helped to including some really good and healthy stuff into our diet. I don't have an recipes handy, but I'd recommend looking for recipes with quinoa or lentils. Avoid ones that just look like a salad... too boring.
![]() edit: things like quinoa or lentils add protein and make it a meal |

When I lived in the east village, I used to get a slice of the Picante at this place almost every day. It's fucking awesome. May head down there later today come to think of it!

i'd start with any govinda cookbook. it's basically lacto-vegetarian (dairy: yes, eggs: no), good for a start. just make sure you have an asian-style food store nearby with a vast selection of spices ;)

You can also just take your regular recipes and substitute in other products
my favorite meat substitute is Yves Crumbles (better than Morning Star, imho) I also use almond milk in place of regular milk (I like it better than soy milk) Egg Replacer is good for when you want to go total vegan and the recipe calls for eggs. It takes some practice getting used to the right measurements though. for veggie burgers, you can't beat Boca Burgers for faux chicken, Qorn has really good Chix breasts Whole Foods even has vegan shrimp. It's a little on the chewy side though. For meatless sausage, Morning Star is really good.

if your looking to lower meat intake be sure to replace your iron and proteins. definitely want to be eating almonds and sunflower seeds, lots of proteins, vitamin e and magnesium all good for artery and heart health.
spinach is on my hot list right now.. you wont believe the vitamins and healing properties in this shit.. http://whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=43

I have this one (no, I'm not veggie but I don't have meat at every meal, either.) It has pretty solid recipes that you can add some spice to.

I'm vegetarian. Personally I tend to prefer normal recipes that don't happen to include meat vs. "vegetarian" recipes. Things like:
Pizza with onions, basil, etc. Cheese enchiladas Spaghetti with marinara Fettuccine alfredo Bean and cheese burrito or chalupa Baked potato (with Bacos) Notice no tofu on the list! These are all things anyone might order in a restaurant, not specifically for vegetarians. Vegetarian cookbooks consistently seem to add in tofu, mushrooms, or various vegetables where they are neither needed nor tasty. For example chili. Chili is pinto, black, or kidney beans, tomatoes, chilies, seasoning, and meat. If you make it without the meat, why the hell do recipes add cucumbers or carrots? Just use two kinds of beans instead of choosing one. Come to think of it, black beans instead of meat works well in a lot of things, including tacos. |
