I'm no expert, but when I tried getting one, most online places wanted five figures in monthly revenue. Quite a bit for a new business. Your local bank, that you already have a relationship with, would be more likely to bend to your needs.

There are quite a few processing people on this board. Give it a few days, after the holiday, and I'm sure you'll see some good answers.

Yep as sly says, they always want to know about your processing numbers,so it would be best to start with paypal till you get some number and then move to merchant account

Use Paypal or Google Wallet. Both are excellent and cheap. Paypal is particularly easy to integrate, and may be better depending on what you sell because alot of people tend to keep money in their paypal accounts and / or link them to both their credit card and checking accounts, making it even easier to spend money.

With Paypal you can request that funds be paid to you any time.

With Google they automatically pay you about 2-3 days after the purchase is made. They have a built in 45 day delay for new accounts or something like that (read their site), but after that its very fast.

The Google reporting system is faster and easier to use than Paypals.

If you're not sure which one to use, use both.

You would have to read about the differences for each to determine which is the best for you. What I would suggest is that you use both Paypal AND Google Checkout. Offering more ways for customers to pay you means you get paid faster. Both services are free. You only pay for the transaction fees.

Even better, Google Wallet works with Google analytics and Google Adwords, letting you really fine-tune your advertising. Google also offers generous discounts as your volume increases.

  1. Your Bank
  2. First Data (VISA bought them out?)
  3. PayPal

For mainstream the are a lot of options (payment processors) with most of them offering low transaction fees and discounts.

cdgcommerce looks good for mainstream, but they don't accept adult sites. It states it on application. Would be nice to have cheap rates for both adult and mainstream... LOL

He said mainstream. Your banks can compete with their rates and then offer the gateway service for free? Quantum is free, no fees whatsoever.

I would like to know where on the online page you signup does it say:

"by filling out an application you authorize *authorize.net* to start deducting from your account. We actually won't start doing it until the following month (because we want to not set off any radars and take as much money from you as possible), but rest assured, we will take your money. We understand the *application* appears to look like an application but it is actually a contract that we hold dear to our hearts and we want your money. Further, we do not care if you are using our service or not, because on page 46 of our TOS which you had to click *I have read all this bullshit and agree* you allow us to not only deduct monthly from your account, we are going to add another hundo just for the fuck of it! In conclusion, we will make it extremely difficult for you to cancel and all questions asked by you will be answered with lack of professionalism and we will basically tell you that we don't give a fuck and that you, the applicant, signed a binding contract and we loooooove your money"

I would like to see that statement on the online application at authorize.net

I'm not chearleading for quantum. I was giving my experience with authorize... they are a scammy operation on the signup part. I would say likely 40% if not more of their money comes from unsuspecting applicants who thought they were just applying for a merchant account. I have to dig through my emails, which I don't want to do right now, but they are hand in hand with the bank. They merged not too long ago with the bank. So you apply for a merchant account (thinking you are applying) and they are banging your account for a setup fee and monthly fees and likely conjured up some other fees to bang unsuspecting applicants (as the gateway software who is the middle man to the bank... who they are now a part of).

It's totally a scam. I know authorize does provide gateway services and people use them, and are ok with it. I'm talking about their thievery to those that are *applying* and just testing to see what is out there and who will approve them.

Quantum... is directly associated with CDG. Honestly, some programming is buggy and I have had problems in the past. You need to either know how to program or have a programmer set it up. Do not ever *test* the transactions via sending xml queries as that seems to fuck everything up. I.e... programmer did some test and turned all recurring options into single transactions. I then manually set all members back to recurring and all members started getting double billed ***nightmare ***

I just take it as it is... it is free and it works. Just don't try and do anything out of the box and make sure a competent programmer sets up your billing.

I'll look into Quantum from what you say they don't sound bad at all. I googled quantum vs auth.net and an ancient thread from a webhosting board was the first result and it seems people say the same thing as you're saying also. Sounds pretty good actually, and I figure as time passes it would only get better

auth.net has pretty good api and implementation options. There docs are good and they offer several different apis and ways to implement it, but it seems quantum has "authorize.net emulation mode" which i figure is good for people switching over, but i'm sure the api's are relative. They all are really

It looks pretty good - you sold me.

In the meantime i found out how on moneybookers with partner account you can get processing fee for only 1.6%,doubt anyone can beat that.(and they have quick checkout, where user dont need to signup to service to pay)Plus what i find it annoying, most of those who offer proccessing dont even bother to show their fees, first you need to pass interview and answer all kind of stupid question to get quote.Fuck that retarded behavior.

Hello Qwe,

There is no monthly minimum when applying for a mainstream merchant account with NETbilling. If you would like to send me your email address I would be happy to send you more information. I'm sure you will find the level of service provided by our company far beyond your expectations.

We can also be reached at [email protected] or 888-357-8166.

P.S. Thank you Lace for the kind words. I'm always happy to hear that our merchants are satisfied!

I just landed a deal with a Swedish bank at 1.15% flatrate for Visa, Mastercard and Diners.
Banks are not always expensive.

Not possible. There are certainly hidden fees. Check the contract carefully.

It sounds very low, I believe it for real once I see the first transaction paid out to us.
Till then I'll enjoy the happy dream.

In Croatia you can even get for 0% processing fee.And it's working, checked with companies which using it and all what you need to pay is yearly fee.Plus moneybookers fee is 1.6% which is also pretty good. And dont think moneybookers hides anything.

I'd say not Paypal....use amazon payments. Who doesn't trust amazon? Everyone uses amazon.

PAYPAL is good, problem is withdrawing the funds if you are outside of USA, they dont send any wires and you can only get a shitty check that if it gets LOST by postal company, then PAYPAL wont reisue a new one and you lose the money.

SUCKS SO MUCH...

Actually many don't use amazon. It is fine for some. However, having your own merchant account and working with a company like NETbilling will give you control and flexibility that you will never het from 2CO, Yahoo, Authnet, Paypal and most other hosted or third party solutions.

TrustCash accepts both mainstream and adult websites.
And you don't need to have a merchant account.
