IFFOR Releases Green Paper on reducing online piracy

I have just received a copy of a Green Paper released by the International Foundation for Online Responsibility (IFFOR) that provides six suggestions on ways online adult companies can help themselves when it comes to reducing and combating online piracy of their adult content.

The six suggestions are as follows:

1) Register the copyright for your content
2) Watermark or fingerprint your content
3) Engage a DMCA agent
4) Report abuse to search engines
5) Report abuse to payment processors
6) Take legal action

You can read more on PimpsPromo.com

London should be interesting tonight

ICM Registry is feeling the heat. Two months before the majority of dotxxx domains come up for renewal (and most will be dropped), they come up with a search engine and their IFFOR puppets try to get some attention with this paper. What a lame attempt to seem relevant.

Their best advice for using technology is fingerprinting and... watermarking? lol

I hope they didn't spend a lot of time coming up with that list.

Fucking joke.

What's different about their suggested practices, vs. what everyone is already doing now? Looks the same to me.

Where else do they talk about using technology to protect your content? Because I don't see it and I read the entire retarded PDF that is targeted towards people who just started in the industry and have no clue that content even gets stolen. Though, I'm not surprised another adult "organization" is talking out of their ass about something they know nothing about. Seems to be the norm.

What would I do? I'd fire the person who came up with that list and try to get up to speed with what is going on in the world of piracy and the various ways to combat it.

So, you do not currently have any better ideas? Cool. If you read the PDF you must have noticed that it is a work in progress that will grow as new methods are discovered.

Do you mean what do I do?

I'd do what I've been doing for the past two years which is almost completely stop piracy of my new content. There are endless posts about it and countless idiots saying it couldn't be done, but that is exactly what we did. Whatever is out there of mine is either very old content, DVD rips, or promo content we've allowed. Nothing new.

If you'd like me to write up a nice PDF for everyone to download and study so they can try to reverse engineer what we do, I'll pass.

Better ideas? I've had better ideas for 2 years now. There are already other solutions out there and they have been available for a couple of years.

Watermark your content.

Anyone who has been in this biz for more than 3 days is already aware of all of the strategies they outlined...

It's a decent start, but it's more of a rough draft that accidentally leaked out, than an official strategy guide/report on combating piracy......

Looks to me like IFFOR have (a) stated the bleeding obvious and (b) not come up with one single novel idea, (c) wasted money that could have been put to use fighting pirates rather than paying consultants for ridiculous papers.

In the Commonwealth, the Republic of Ireland and the United States[1] a green paper is a tentative government report and consultation document of policy proposals for debate and discussion,[2] without any commitment to action; the first step in changing the law. Green papers may result in the production of a white paper.

You're right, it is silly of them to offer up sensible, easy suggestions that everyone should do, WTF were they thinking? Shouldn't they be worrying about responsible business practices?

As far as how much they get paid, unless you are a stockholder, that doesn't really matter does it?

All 6 steps listed are more or less grade school information in terms of reducing piracy. And everything listed have already been taken place for a few years now and is honestly "duh" information.

I'm talking about using technology other than or in addition to digital fingerprinting (which by the way can be circumvented in many cases), along with some trickery and actual thought. There are several things you can do to reduce piracy that are not on that list. Some simple, some not so simple. Unfortunately, because this place is now full of pirates and bottom feeders, most of us no longer discuss real details of what is going on and how to do it.

If you just got into the business and didn't have any idea there was a piracy problem, that list would be of value. However, it's humorous to see something like that released in 2012 by a paid group that is supposed to be focused on "online responsibility." Even as a starting point, it's out dated.

No, clearly not everyone. What I'm saying is, how does this help piracy?

Are they just targeting new domain buyers that don't know the piracy game?

My point was, I see nothing here that people who know what they're doing aren't already doing.

Just an observation. I've got not dog in these fights any more.

Thanks.

I figured it was for people buying .xxx domains; so I guess there could be a fair number of n00bs in that group.

I went to one once, many years ago. What brought the house down was the introduction of a brand new technology that would revolutionize the way we wrote HTML: CSS -- folks in the audience were slack-jawed at how amazing the soon-to-be released CSS would be.

We all take CSS for granted today.

Things change.
