I still love programming on my C64 and was my first computer that I learned Basic on when I was 8. I just loaded some old cassettes with a few games that I made the other day and thought "How the f did I know how to do that back then?" Fun times..

I did that recently. I didn't go as far back as that though. I opted for the Sega Megadrive and Mega CD. Of course the games are NEVER as good as you remember them, but it's still nice to take that trip down memory lane...

Oh damn! I remember that silly game. I had no clue how to play poker but i just kept on hitting random keys hoping to see more 320x200 16 colours skin.
Being 12 back then without the internet wasn't easy... Kids nowadays have no idea how happy they should be. |

Just do it. I sometimes play my snes, nes and sega games on my media center. It will give you a good feeling once you satisfy the urge to re-experience the memory. You won't miss the old days that much.

Damn, those are classics. I don't think it'll ruin your memories. If anything, you'll feel a lot of nostalgia, like I do when I play the games I grew up with.

First game I ever saw on C64, this was on Christmas day at my neighbors house, I thought it was amazing at the time
Then I remember often playing this around his house, on a black and white tv

FAST HACKEM was the best software I used on the C64... along with an ISEPIC cartridge that could make my games load 10x faster... I miss the sounds of my disk drives grunting... grunt grunt grunt grrr... good stuff.

Guys, as Paul&John mentioned, you can get an emulator, for example go to http://www.amigaforever.com to get a great, easy to use Amiga emulator.
Then you can get game ROMS at various websites, a few of my favourites are available from Cinemaware: http://www.cinemaware.com/games/

You should buy them, and if you look on ebay you can find lots of working versions of both for fair prices. You will like having them again, you'll see.

The guy down the road had one of those, they looked and played pretty much identical to the C64 versions, very impressive...but, they took over 1 hour to load. (at least on his they did )

When I was in grade school our neighbor had the Commodore Vic-20 with the tape drive. They had a game that you would type the command to load, press play on the drive and it took 20 minutes to load it. When your game was over you had to do it again to play again.
A few years later I got the Commodore - 128 and it felt like owning a supercomputer next to the Vic-20 |

Even today amiga 500 is by far my favorite computer.Loved c64 too! The first thing I do when I buy a phone or tablet is to install amiga and c64 emulators.
I used to make a lot of music with fasttracker and similar and I am still angry at myself that I threw away all the old amiga discs with all my music on it long time ago before backing it up on PC. here is another c64classic i loved.. took me some time to realize that after level 20, i think, it just selects random level and you can play infinitely . and this is by far my favorite c64 game, loved it! giana sister is great too..ah so many memories.. |

I was about to buy an Amiga 500 and C64 as well recently, but ended up dropping the plan. Part of me really want to go back in time, but when I ask myself how much time I am going to spend on the old games, answer is "probably not much after first week".
Graphics and gameplay were really awesome back then. Problem is, it was the 80'ies and I'm afraid that magic is gone today. A shame because it was some of the best time and fun moments with computers in my life. Unfortunally it will never be the same. Although Apple try to preach otherwise, computers today just have no soul unlike in the past. As mentioned, try download some emulators and games first before spending any money. Except 'North and South' I think nearly all my most played C64 games are in this video. Fond memories. |

You aren't an oldfag unless you know what QLINK is... I still remember the day my dad bought me the new amazingly fast 1200bd modem upgrade from 300!!!!! Does anyone remember what the sidescrolling action game was that came out with the introduction of the Amiga 500? Those graphics were all anyone was talking about in nerd circles.
