The bitch should be spit on. That poor waitress prolly makes next to nothing. If you can afford to fucking eat out, you can afford to tip properly! To not do so is STEALING.

if the restaurant is unable to satisfactorily pay the wages of its workers, there should be no restaurant. pretending its the patrons responsibility on the basis that the workers aren't 'paid enough' is.. just mind numbing

I think waitresses make decent money. Even if they only make 10% of the tab as a tip, and run five or six tables an hour... I cannot begin to imagine what the average ticket cost is - must depend on the restaurant... Let's just say they make $5 tip per table, and run six tables in an hour. That's $30 an hour, plus minimum wage. For an entry level position that's not bad at all.

We went to a local restaurant this weekend, very similar to Applebees. Our first time there our ticket was lost, and we waited over an hour to be served. Son of a bitch, the same thing happened this weekend. They lost our ticket again. They gave us our meal for free, but our waitress was so much fun I gave her a $20 tip anyhow.

Minimum wage for servers is $2.13 an hour. I can tell by the way you speak that you are a lousy tipper for one. Two that you've never worked in or owned a restaurant.

What most people don't factor in is the waitress/waiter has to then tipout others. This is generally 3% of sales. Not actual tips made, of sales. So this girl actually lost money for the privilege of serving this almighty cunt. And god forbid the IRS comes in a reviews the books. They won't look at that as a non tip. They will assume cash and fine accordingly.

They make more in metropolitan areas, but then the cost of living is much higher in those areas, too.

All I'm saying is it's a low-paying gig. Watch the server hustle the next time you go to a restaurant on a busy night, covered with sweat and grime (kinda like porn), and be generous when the bill comes. You never know if they have mouths to feed, or if they're facing eviction, or what difficulties they're facing.

And if they truly suck, and don't care about giving you good service, then I guess they do deserve to be stiffed. That's very unusual though - at least in my experience. Most try hard to please.

I don't disagree. There are certain expectations that come with a tip. They need to work.

But my experience has mostly been a total ass kissing and speedy service by my waiters, cuz of course they want maximum tips. They really have to fuck up for me to leave nothing, though. Adding the tip in the bill is very common for large parties. In this case, it's a chain restaurant so it's an official policy. Not the waitresses fault. In a perfect world, such policies wouldn't be necessary. But because there are so many scumbags, a server could work all night serving a large party, and then get stiffed for 50-100 or more if the customers have no moral compass. It's just a precaution to protect the server.

I did spend a number of years as a server and more in my younger years, have also owned a restaurant, toying with the idea of another and in addition to other things currently liquidate defunct restaurants and/or buy and sell their equipment so sure I'll defend them all day.

It's generally 18% because of the tipout. As mentioned earlier. Server assistants/bussers, bartenders, food runners and sometimes even hostesses/hosts all get a percentage.

I read into this a bit more and this girl wasn't the waitress who served the Pastor she took the picture of another waitresses ticket and posted it. The Pastor called in and wanted everyone (both waitresses and both managers one off duty and one off duty) fired. Just the one girl was fired.

Funny part is if you are 10 and split the bill into 2 groups of 5 (more work) they usually do not add it.

I usually tip in the range of 20-30%, if a tip is added automatically I don't tip anything extra. If I am not happy with the service or the food I am not tipping.

If I don't tip I usually leave a mark on the bill saying what I'm not happy about so its something the restaurant / waiter can improve if they feel its important for them. If they don't I can only assume that the extra work needed to make me happy isn't worth the tip for them

Yeah that article was poorly wrote cause the title/sub title says

but like you said it wasn't even her waitress but a fellow waitress working there too.. Also she did actually pay the 18% tip as it was already added into the bill.. In the video the pastor said she left $6 in cash haha but with her leaving that note on the bill and with her being embarassed I'm sure she is just making that up..

This type of shit pisses me off cause I've been taught to always show respect to those that are serving you. So I tip very well. I also don't think the 18% auto tip for larger parties is too much as the waitress has to work 4 to 5 times harder for a table of 10 which this was compared to a table of 2.

To me if you want to take out your gf and are a cheapskate and leave her only a few quarters fine. But when you are a pastor and are bringing 9 other people out then tip well cause the waitress is working a lot harder and is prolly going to be there servicing your party a lot.

My motto is if you can't afford to tip don't go out. Go to a drive thru or prepare and serve yourself. Don't ask a waitress to wait on you for her base $2.13 a hour.

Now if I go out with just me and a girl and get really bad service I'll leave just 15% (compared to my 20-30% normal) and say something to the manager if he or she is around. It's never about being mean. I'll just say something like.. "Hey the food was great tonight but our waitress was a little slow.. Maybe she is having a off night or has other personal problems but again the food was great." By doing this you are letting her manager know that she might not be doing great and maybe he'll ask her if she's alright. If you leave her a small or no tip the only thing you are doing is making yourself look cheap. Also making the waitress in a worse mood and she will more likely to be a shitty waitress the rest of the night.

I would write curse words on my tab too. 2) a pastor crossing out the tip? OK...but leaving nothing? clearly she should be fired just like the waitress was.

The Pastor called in and wanted everyone (both waitresses and both managers one off duty and one off duty) fired.
