Fox News Claims Solar Won't Work in America Because It's Not Sunny Like Germany

Oh for fuck's sake. It's tragic that they have any viewers at all.

Quote:
Thanks to Fox News and its expert commentators, millions of Americans now understand the real, hidden reason why Germany's solar-energy industry is so much further along than ours. Turns out it has nothing to do with the fact that Germany's government has long supported the industry far more generously, with policies like feed-in tariffs that stimulate investment in green technologies. No, the real reason is much simpler, explained a trio of journalists on Fox & Friends: It's always sunny in Germany!

Lol, Germany is usually used as example of successful solar strategy even they have barely any sun compared to many other countries. The reason is why they are strong in it is because green movement is strong there, green party was even participating in government

300+ sunny days per year where I am, and solar here is laughable. Las Vegas and the surrounding desert should be covered in solar panels.

We have Solar One and a few places have panels, but thats it.

Here in Northern California our fairgrounds our parking lot is covered with solar panels. It's win win - provides shade for the cars and provides power to the fairgrounds. Pretty cool.

I have explained it before and I will do so again for those of you that are slow... a car that runs on water is bullshit. yes it is theoretically possible but the energy required to separate the two parts hydrogen from one part oxygen is more than burning the hydrogen can produce, so in reality you are operating at a huge net loss.

Take a basic physics class people

My old house on Pine Island had 2 solar panels that would make my pool to hot to use if left on more than a few hours in the winter. But inside, the shower and jacuzzi used electric tankless water heaters. Really made no sense.

and Germany doesn't have any nuclear power either.
Nuclear is the most cost effective power.

Not saying we shouldn't do solar, just saying that comparing US to Germany is not a fair comparison.

Carter installed solar panels on the roof of the White House. Reagan had them removed immediately because he viewed them as a sign of weakness. He didn't think the great USA should have to harvest power from the sun.

Just imagine where we'd be at today if solar development had been heavily funded back in the 70s.

You mean like Solyndra and Satcon Technology Corp?
Both of which failed and declared bankruptcy?

China spends a shit load more on solar and is getting results, we get failures which means more business outside the US, way to go BARRY!

Natural gas prices are regional not international so Germany spends a lot more to make electricity then we do. Thus the breakeven on solar is at a different point. They subsidized their solar power in addition to this. The sun thing is stupid but they committed to solar because it makes sense for them as they import their natural gas from Russia.

Yes and no. You can use DC current to separate water into Hydrogen and Oxygen, both of which can be used for fuel. Problem is that the conversion process is expensive and not very efficient. Hydrogen powered cars are useless in my opinion. All electric is much more efficient and cheaper too.

because we all know after Tschernobyl and Japan that it's dangerous.

Solar panels can provide you lots of energy, but price is still too high, batteries are weak and expensive, need more development

there's btw a great way to reduce energy costs - stop wasting so much

in Germany you receive incentives when you improve your house insulation and the use of AC in private buildings is still very uncommon (i'd ask Fox to explain that if it was really as sunny as they claim).

the energy consumption per capita in Germany is half of what it is in the US

Oddly enough Florida (i.e. The Sunshine State) is one of the states where it makes the least amount of economic sense to go solar.

Go figure
