Curious about .xxx domains...

In another post of mine, someone mentioned that the majority of people here don't support the .xxx domain - May I ask why?

If I am not mistaken it is because when they first campaigned to start this extension. They were trying to make it mandatory that porn sites be on .xxx and force people to buy them. If they were to get regulators to mandate this. It would have meant the loss of an unimaginable amount of money for a lot of people on this board. Etc. Etc.

Fuck that's crazy! The extension has been around for a while now right? I can't see it ever really taking off though, I mean, most consumers don't even know about the .xxx!

There is a lot of reasons, but the more basic/simple answer to start is because we dont need a new extension..

We have thousands of .com domains, few .net/.org. No point to support new .xxx and spend on that...

Plus the price were too expensive, much more than regular extension we buy...plus they've tried to get huge price on some good domains...

Also the facts that it woukd be easyer to block .xxx for a country, office, etc...

From the beginning they started it wrong and scammy and us like most of companies decided to boycott them..

And still seems the right decision, except few domains, most will not pay the annual fees with the earnings..

They were no hype and it may die by itself or stay like a .info or other kind of ext..

Thats my personal opinion..

their marketing made it look like they actually cared about the adult industry and wanted to keep things safe on .xxx which could have gained quite a bit of acceptance with a few smart moves put into place, when in reality their angle was defensive registration and a pure money grab

It would have went over well had they charged .com prices and gave registration priority to the .com owner at no extra fee.

the majority of people are foolish, basically it's just another domain extension, and the extension is being marketed for adult content, you can make any website on the extension. At least it's not as bad as the marketing for .co, .tv, and .ws these extensions are just country codes, but marketed for corporations, television, and world sites.

I like the .xxx for some terms and own about 10 of them, but .com, .net, and .org are still the best in which I have a couple 100.

ICM Registry wanted all porn to filter through .xxx They proposed they would actively moniter all .xxx sites for cp and illegal content as well as illegal operations.

ICM Registry used scare tactics to to get .com owners of every business to purchase a .xxx for safeguard.

ICM Registry scalped the reserve prices to well over a hundred dollars per year initially.

ICM Registry reserved the good names for themselves and auctioned them off for outlandish prices or made private deals.

No monitoring, no initiative to protect, it was a lie and a money grab for ICM.

I do agree with you, but it might be time to move on since it's a reality now. The .xxx domains I purchased are all generic, and if someone reg. your trademark send them and ICM a C&D letter.

If only search.xxx had more traffic:

Perhaps there would be some added value. Alexa #60,000th...
Let compare with thehun and freeones:

Will not compare with tubes as the graph of search.xxx becomes invisible (one pixel flat line at bottom).
