Second line is a tradition in brass band parades in New Orleans, Louisiana. The "main line" or "first line" is the main section of the parade, or the members of the actual club with the parading permit as well as the brass band. Those who follow the band just to enjoy the music are called the "second line." The second line's style of traditional dance, in which participants walk and sometimes twirl a parasol or handkerchief in the air, is called "second lining." It has been called "the quintessential New Orleans art form ? a jazz funeral without a body."[1] Another significant difference from so called "jazz funerals" is second line parades usually lack the slow hymns and dirges played at funerals (although this is not a hard rule; some organizations may have the band play something solemn towards the start of the parade in memory of members deceased since their last parade).

Shit like this happening all the time.. I've had plenty of close encounters myself. A lot of gangs and territorial issues over there..

I remember one time I fucked up and took some Ambien after drinking over there.. and walking down the street in the "wrong direction".. everybody I passed walking the other way was like.. "You don't want to go that way.." "Hey man.. it's not safe down there".. "Why don't you join us and come this direction".. it was weird..

I woke up hours later next in an alley with a hobo poking at me.. telling me it would be smart if I went back to my hotel.. I said.. I don't know where it is.. He said he would take me.. but I told him I needed to take a shit first.. so he walked me down a few alleys to a krystals.. where I took a massive shit (was staying with a new gf at the hotel didn't want to blow it up).. then he took me back to my hotel.

I gave him $20 and thanked him.. he was a good guy in retrospect... and I never took Ambien again
