I had an account on POF....barely used it, though I logged in periodically and checked out my "matches." Rarely contacted anyone though. I logged in the other day to get that message from Markus (the founder). Today I tried to log in and found my account was deleted. I guess I had "intimate encounters" checked. Oh well. Like I said, never really contacted anyone on the site anyway.

But, I do find it interesting that not too long ago Markus launched some POF clone called eVow, with the purpose of focusing on serious relationships and less on casual dating and flings. When I saw the message about the changes to POF, my first thought was, "Oh, so you're converting POF to eVow?"

It's total bullshit. Basically those rules apply to men and men only. A 21 yo can still send messages to 36 yo's but the men can't reply. The guy is only making the site worse, not better. Supposedly he wants to change the stigma that it's only a hookup site to something else. Guess what, the only reason that site is popular is because it's a free hookup site, plain and simple. And, why does he still show people that don't fit the 14 +/- in certain match results?

He has holes all over that site. Also, there is already a way to set age restrictions on contacting someone.

I'll say this. If anyone here is interested in starting a competitor site and can bring traffic and new members I would be very interested in working on such a project with you. I'll provide the code. I know what I think is wrong with that site (and others) and think I have a pretty good remedy to correct the problem with dating sites as they are constructed today. That's all I'm going to say about that right now though.

I also read that he will be removing any profiles of people that are married/not single. There are some pretty upset people on his "hidden" forum. Of course, any man that expresses any opinion that is negative about the new changes is labeled a "creepy old guy" by the women on the forums. That site is really in total disarray. It still has so much potential but I don't think he really cares, he's made a ton from it.

Seriously though, taking away the intimate encounters just means that all the horny guys will try their luck even more in the general pool (pond?) of women which will just lead to it being more annoying for the women that are deluded enough to think a real relationship could come from the site.

I was thinking the same thing....now's the time for a free site that doesn't shun "intimate encounters" to pop up. If I had the means, I'd already have it in motion. Phypon, I know you don't know me from any other random name on a message board, but I'd be interested in doing what I can with a project like this. I'm probably limited to basic marketing and general site moderation (weeding out fake profiles/spammers, etc.), and I'll admit that I'm not as qualified in bringing in traffic as others here, but I'd love to be involved in something like this. I'm good at tedious, stupid work...lol. I have no idea what contact info is in my profile, but the best way to reach me would probably be email. support (at) naughty visions dot com. Agreed. It would appear that this guy simply is letting his position go to his head and starting to let 'whatever' effect his better judgement. The site got popular for a reason, beyond that it had easy hook ups. Now you are going to change up all of the stuff that got you where you are in the first place? Dumb.

While I do not agree with someone taking the high horse approach like this guy. Ultimately it's his site to do with what he wishes. I would guess that his 'moderators' and lifers are driving some of these policies more than anything else. Much like Craigslist, when you give all of the freeloaders and religious whack jobs a vote, shit goes to hell.

Totally agree. I also think that you intuitively hit the nail on the head that there is an outside influence to him making the new changes. Somewhere along the line someone is pressuring him/ideating for him to make the new changes. They really do not make much sense and completely go against what made that site what it is today.
