PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island ? A woman is charged with assault after she threw a rock at a TV cameraman and set her dogs upon a reporter.

The crew was there to tell the woman a suspect had been arrested for shooting her daughter. The daughter is now home and recovering from the shooting.

The video shows Melissa Lawrence throwing a rock, then directing her two pit bulls to attack the crew.

The reporter was bit on the arm.

Lawrence is charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon.

The Rhode Island TV station, WLNE-TV, said the news crew was on public property.

Watch the video again; if you know anything about dogs you would see that they are responding to her actions. If she had stood still and turned her back to them I doubt it would have escalated.

Most people have no idea how to train a dog to bite on command. Police dogs are trained for that and it takes a lot of time and effort. A friend of mine is a K9 cop and I have seen some of the training they do. It can take more than a year of constant training to get a dog to attack on command (of course they also train them to stop attacking and and do other things during that time).

In that video it looks like the dogs are coming after her, but they don't look too serious. Had she stood her ground and hit them on the nose there is a good chance those dogs would have hauled ass the other direction. It even looks like the dogs are wagging their tails as they ran after her.

One of the things they do with police dogs before they even start to train them is a temperament test. They see how the dog reacts when something smacks it in the nose. Almost all dogs cower or back off. The few that don't are the ones that can move on and be used.

Of course, if these dogs had the correct temperament, her hitting them would have done no good, but it likely would have been better than trying to run away which does nothing but build the dog's confidence.

Most of the time they're owned by either a macho douche rocket or an illiterate idiot who has no idea of the how bad that situation could have turned out. Granted, Pitbulls already have a little something to make them dangerous, but something about that breed draws those idiots that can't really give the dog a chance to be a good dog.

She shouldn't have ran from them, because even a Lab can smell fear and act like that -- but everyone can't be expected to know that. Dogs needs to be owned by responsible people, not retards. You should need a license, just like having a gun(with a rigorous personality and background check), especially for the pitbull breed.

I have no doubt that the dog would have mouthed her. Worst thing you can do in that situation is exactly what the reporter did. She recoiled and shrieked. That's what most people instinctively do, and the dog now sees the woman acting suspicious and thinks that she's something to check out. You see several frames where the dog leaps. All it takes is one nip, and its considered a bite.

And yes I think that Reporters are cockroaches. The woman's daughter has been injured, and all the reporter wants is her story.

That reporter was not concerned at all about the state of mind of a mom who's daughter had been shot.

She just wanted her story and kept asking the same questions after being told to go away.

The reporter acted like she was interviewing a murder suspect and trying to get her to talk by badgering her.

Therefore, I think it's funny as shit that she got a different story than she wanted.
