On February 4th, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:

"In Russia live Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, then we advise them to go to those places where that's the state law. Russia does not need minorities. Why do English speakers think it's "anti-gay" law? It's "anti gay propaganda for children" law. If anyone suggests to a child that he or she should be gay when they grow up, they get fined. That's it. It's not like you are getting shot on site if you tell anyone that you are gay.

Protect children? Not all gays are pedophiles just like not all heteros are. Exposure to the gay lifestyle is unlikely to make you want to partake. So the law is a more then a bit pointless except that it is used for bashing gays. You would think that a bord full of people who make money off of asexual behavior that we would be a bit more open to other choices.
