It?s official. Research Reveals Poor people really are stupid.

Researchers have discovered that having money worries significantly impedes your cognitive abilities....Scientists found that poorer people faced with a large, unexpected bill perform significantly worse in cognitive IQ tests than they would otherwise have done without the financial worry hanging over them.

there is another study that was posted awhile back.. it was basically turning a classroom into 'superior/inferior' sections for a day, then switching them back..

apparently the days that the 'superior' side was given tests, they performed at a higher cognitive rate than the inferior, and vice versa.. the interesting thing is once the test was over, both sides would perform at the same 'high' level for the rest of the testing done for the year

now see, that's an interesting study that could perhaps provide value in teaching, etc. i wonder if anything productive came from it.

the teacher pushed this for years.. and did the test/study for years

this is the original class, you can see them bring that original class back, and there is also a tape floating around of the same teacher, teaching prison guards the same lesson.. fascinating stuff

that prison guard angle completely reminded me of the original stanford psychology "research" study on prison guard mentality, it goes insanely wrong and the head researcher even gets sucked into the chaos!

"Poor people are stupid"

I'm gonna file this one under "Obvious"
Politically incorrect...but pretty fucking obvious.

People who are smart tend to think BETTER under pressure. Whenever I am under financial pressure that's when I kick the most ass. And I'm betting that most of you do too.

There's a reason that some people are perpetually poor and never seem to be able to rise up.
We get a million excuses...but the bottom line is: there is a lot of opportunity in this country for those with the intelligence and the work ethic to seize it.

For everybody else? Keep begging the govt. for "help" (while they enslave you) and/or go on strike to try and get paid $15 an hour for flipping burgers.

Not all poor people are stupid, but most stupid people are poor. If you loose your job and don't work for 12 months, you become poor. But that doesn't mean you are stupid.

Anybody can have a bad turn of luck...I'm talking about the CHRONICALLY and TERMINALLY poor.

They are pretty much stupid.

After reading that article it seems like a better title might be, "Stress causes people to score lower on IQ tests."

The article itself said that the scores of those with money worries were the same as those who had missed a full night's sleep.

you're talking about entitlement

once you get into how the military operates, who benefits, and why, the 'entitlement' argument distinctly changes

yes, for me, the article illustrates why i've thought for a while that psychological science is the most dangerous of all sciences. certainly, it's stress. but to base it on iq testing? that's laughable really. imo anything based on iq or, and even more importantly, the dsm is based on what others deem socially acceptable.

and then, and then! to make it worse, retards in the media can glob on to it and spin it like the thread title.

Poor people are, in general, less educated. That might contribute to the overall numbers when tallying stupidity. But I know some rich people who are highly educated yet very stupid in a lot of other ways. Conversely I know many people of far less means and less booksmarts who are very happy all things considered.

So the bigger question might be who is happier, rich people or poor people? Don't be so quick to jump at the answer, because it's not as obvious as it might seem.

you're joking right? you can't read the thread or you didn't red the thread? because

1. i posted a link showing the exact article i c&p'ed the title from and stated it was a c&p

2. you fully fail to get the point i was making, which i also outlined in another post.

i'll state it again, in deference to you.

the research is irresponsible. any pysychological research that makes conclusions based on iq are worthless.

here are my quotes on that, which i already [posted in this thread.

i doubt you will be able to sort it out now, just pointing out how you so blatantly missed it all already.

a couple of quotes from the article's author's conclusion on the research

*FOR THE DENSE: THESE ARE NOT MY WORDS, THESE ARE COPIED WORDS I AM USING TO MAKE THE POINT THAT PSYCHOLOGY RESEARCH IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND NOT BASED ON FACTS*

Quote:
You all thought rich people had money because they had advantages and opportunities available to them that you did not. Now it seems that not only are these people considerably richer than yow, they are also considerably cleverer than you.
Quote:
proving conclusively that that specific money worry, and not the trappings of wealth, which might include a better education, was the reason for poor people being stupid.
i emphasised the last part, research like this is backwards, it assumes poor people are stupid then looks for a reason for that.

" Whether the study shows correlation or causation, at least it’s another handy excuse for those so afflicted."

This forum perfectly supports those findings.

i'll state it again, in deference to you.

the research is irresponsible. any pysychological research that makes conclusions based on iq are worthless.

here are my quotes on that, which i already [posted in this thread.

i doubt you will be able to sort it out now, just pointing out how you so blatantly missed it all already.

IQ meassures your ability to learn new things or solve problems.

Reading the heading on your very first link I see:
Quote:
Poor people aren't stupid; bad decisions are from being overwhelmed, study finds
Then your second link say:
Quote:
It?s official. Poor people really are stupid.
When I read both articles, they are about the same thing.
Both articles state that:
1: If you have a financial burden you can't handle then you make bad/wrong decisions
2: Its temporary, when the burden goes away your performance goes up.

The article on NBC news specifically say that poor people are not stupid.
It also say
Quote:
The poorer and richer shoppers did equally well when they had a minor financial issue at the back of their minds. But when the car repair was more expensive, or when the salary cut was higher, the lower-earners did significantly worse on the later tests than the higher-earners.
Which support the fact that increased stress impairs your decision making more the less you have.
The bitterwallet quote the NBC article incorrectly. NBC state"

Quote:
?It?s what is in their mind that changes,? Shafir told NBC News. ?The test is the same both times. All that changes is how much it takes to fix your car. It?s being distracted by fixing your car that all of a sudden takes away your attention. You are just as smart when the car is cheap and you are less smart on the exact same question when fixing the car is expensive.?
Bitterwallet incorrectly made this quote "Eldar Shafir of Princeton University, who was part of the research team, said: ?Previous views of poverty have blamed poverty on personal failings, or an environment that is not conducive to success. We?re arguing that the lack of financial resources itself can lead to impaired cognitive function. The very condition of not having enough can actually be a cause of poverty.?
On NBC the that statement is made by Zhao, now an assistant professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia.
Your own quote copied from bitterwallet
Quote:
proving conclusively that that specific money worry, and not the trappings of wealth, which might include a better education, was the reason for poor people being stupid.
Seems to originate from
Quote:

It?s being distracted by fixing your car that all of a sudden takes away your attention. Which ultimately proves what I said in my initial post.

no, it doesn't. you were yapping some shit about me arguing with myself and being poor in that first post.

you haven't proved jack shit about anything you wrote in your initial post. i'm not arguing with myself, you haven't shown that and you have no clue whether i am poor or not.

your logic skills are on par with the research that proves *why* poor people are stupid.

Let me find that for you.
Quote:
The article you posted say they aren't. It's like you are debating with yourself
I made a statement and asked a question. My statement was that you disagree with the article you posted.

And here is the article you posted: http://inplainsight.nbcnews.com/_new...udy-finds?lite

Debating was the wrong word to use I agree with you on that one.
It should have been contradicting.
Your 2nd article appear to contradict the first article in the conclusion, not sure if that could make it qualify to be a "debate"
Please explain how my logic skills are on par with the research that proves *why* poor people are stupid. Are you assuming I'm stupid and therefor poor or are you assuming I'm poor and I must be stupid?
I'm not poor but I could be stupid, stupid people wouldn't know if they are stupid would they ? Even if I'm stupid its not on par with the research so I'm really curious how you reached that conclusion.

FYI: For me its nothing personal, I'm arguing for the sake of arguing. I find this to be a very interesting subject but I don't agree with your opinion. The article explain to me a lot of the differences I've seen in Europe / USA, especially the differences on how the lower class acts.

there is nothing contradictory about my view& opinion here. i've iterated it and reiterated it very clearly. the title words were not mine, the op words were not mine, i am otr with that. i'm not contradicting myself and i am not debating myself, you simply need to read to be able to see for yourself my view on the topic.

you, for some reason hmmm, left out your quip about me being poor, let me find that for you.
