Can someone explain how you suppose to lose 33lbs in one week?

So this MMA fighter dies trying to lose 33 lbs in 1 week, but what was he doing to try and do it?

Thanks

I've done 25 pounds in 3 days.

It's dangerous as hell, thought I was going to die the whole time.

- You can't drink any water, sip some and spit it out just to get the taste.
- Wore plastic sweat suit all day even in bed with electric blanket on high
- Did the sauna in 20 minutes sets for 4 hours
- Ate some meat, but only a small amount (one ounce a day)
- jogged in place in the morning before school and at lunch time(sweat suit on)
- do the whole wrestling practice
- I didn't do this but; take a pamprim or other diuretic(makes you piss)
- Spit in a cup constantly all day(removes more water) Chewing Trident gum helps

If you're not in shape enough to run a fast 3 miles and then do a whole football practice then trying this is absolute death!

I did this when I was 15. If I had tried it at 25, I would have dropped dead.

I've done 20lbs in about 4 days before a wrestling match back in high school, but I was basically a zombie until after weigh ins... then I ate like a horse.

Wear a lot of sweats. Trash bags. Find a steam room and do push ups, jumping jacks, up downs, etc., etc., for hours.

Then go for a really long run.

Then repeat.

Don't recommend it.

The weight class system in MMA/Boxing/amateur wrestling is ridiculous, and weight cutting is pretty much allowed cheating. Everyone does it. There's an excellent video on VICE where a guy hangs out with an MMA fighter while he gets ready and goes through his regimen, including the weight cutting. After the weigh in they put on like 10 lbs in a single day. it's ridiculous.

When I was about 32 I dropped twenty pounds in about a month and a half.

It was rather easy - cut back on my food, drank a lot of water, increased my running.

I weigh more now than ever before and I am trying to loose the weight and nothing is working. It sucks.

I am also a huge nerd. So yeah, my muscle mass isn't exactly where I'd like it to be. Step one was losing the fat. Now to sculpt and build muscle. Starting indoor mountain climbing and a kettlebell regimen soon.

I need to lose a few pounds but I don't wanna kill myself doing it. I've heard that Sauna/Steam Room use can really speed up losing water weight but I wouldn't try that myself.

Use to wear a sauna suit, ride a stationary bike in the school showers with them all on hot to lose a few pounds before wrestling weigh in sometimes

Rock climbing will help with proprioception and recruitment. It is not a muscle building exercise. To be honest, kettlebells are not a great muscle building program either. Useful for stabilising muscle groups, but so are any free weights. Which is what you want to be doing to build muscle, free weights. Particularly barbell lifts. Deadlifts, Squats, military press, bench press.

Climbing is fun, particularly bouldering. I've been an avid climber since I was about 12. Its fun and challenging but it is not muscle building.

Is it worth it? I mean you would be pretty weak after that, maybe fighting in higher weight class and being fit would be easier than fighting in lower class but with exhausted body?
Not to mention that no sane person would ever want to do this to his body.

Two years ago I cut from 208 to 199 for a jiu jitsu tournament, took 4 hours in a sauna

Excruciatingly painful, was so dehydrated I couldn't sit up straight, and I felt like I was hungover the next day, even after downing protein shakes and pedialyte after weigh ins.

For me at least, the next weight class was 225 pounds. The difference between me at 208 and a guy who cut down to 225 and could weigh 235-40 is MASSIVE. Like a whole new class of muscle-bound human.

I wrestled in the heavy weight; but was going to drop down for state finals but I needed to
compete at the lower weight at least one match to do it in the finals and the coach told me
this with only a week left to qualify.
So it was desperation on my part.

And no it wasn't worth it at all since I decided to do the finals in the heavy weight anyway because my seed was better based on my record at heavy weight.
