I am so not a pot smoker, but I don't see the harm in it. Make it legal, less costs to police, and tax it. Win win for society. And the pot heads.

I have a friend what is certain that legalizing pot is going to lead to an entire state full of heroin junkies.

I tried to explain to him that just because a person might want to smoke week every now and then doesn't mean they are going to start mainlining smack, but he just doesn't buy it.

You state that like it's fact and yet it's complete bullshit.

Are you saying that 1000 random people stoned and not stoned would be equally productive?
Its not bullshit, it basic common sense.

I would argue that drive and ambition are a completely separate thing from smoking weed and relaxing. Those who think weed is going to impair their ability to succeed aren't going to smoke it even if it is legal. There are many very successful people who enjoy a drink or two every now and then. Hell, in some cases they even get drunk, but that is one night out of their lives and it doesn't change the fact that Monday morning they are back at it.

Those who are going to smoke weed and be lazy likely would have been lazy anyway.

I don't do any drugs besides my cigarettes and beer/vodka. I'll be buying stock in all munchie related companies first thing tomorrow morning. What do you potheads snack on? Figure as more and more states approve it munchie sales will go through the roof.

Well, if you're talking about the health and soundness of society forever being based off of maximizing the labor productivity of every person in it at the expense of recreation, then you might have a point. But your 'common sense' is more valid in the 20th century and less valid in the 21st, trending toward obsolete nonsense.

Even things as hot weather has impact of productivity, for instance take Southern and Northern Europe. Hot weather makes people more relaxed/siesta etc. Same thing with being relaxed on drugs, besides exceptions, most people would not be as productive as they would be without smoking.

All intelligent creatures get high. The only ones that still think its bad are religious fascists, alcoholics, and people who are afraid of losing their job as the guy who watches people take piss tests. Which do you fall under?

I bet you think we should lock dolphins in cages as punishment for getting high.

Dolphins deliberately chew puffer fish to get high with each other

Idk, I smoke while I work and I work 14 hours a day on my network. Imho, it makes me much more creative. The way that the strains are now, you can pick and choose you're "lazy" level if you wish..

Another Story.

There are a lot of things that can affect productivity. My experience is that those who are driven and are going to succeed will. Those who won't will find a reason not to. There are plenty of very successful people living in warm climates.

I think this law will take care of itself because companies in Colorado aren't going to stop drug testing employees. It isn't that they care if you are breaking the law in your off time (although some might), it is that they don't want you high at work.

Many people will choose not to smoke simply because it could cost them their job. I have a feeling most of the people that are going to buy pot in the new stores are people who were buying it illegally already. There might be some new smokers and new people experimenting, but I would be very surprised if Colorado suddenly became a stoner state that collapsed under the weight of all the high people not doing anything.
