Question for Publishers or AdNetworks?

When doing a prepay deal is there a contract involved or is it just verbal?

The reason I ask, is a newer ad network wanted to buy some of my traffic and sent over this crazy long contract for it and I've never seen that before. So is this something new that many are doing or just one new network that doesn't understand how the industry works?

We find that it's more prevalent with the influx of more mainstream type publishers. Since this is a relatively small industry, everyone seems to know everyone, or you can can usually get a reference from someone you already deal with.

That having been said, in some cases it's good to have a contract. It details the obligations and expectations for both parties, and hopefully avoids anything that might be misconstrued later on.

I have been doing mainstream online advertising, and yes it's normal for the first order.
There after we work with IO's which are short order forms, and are covered by the long contract. Maybe someone at that company is from the mainstream.

hope that helps.

Here is a simple rule of thumb that should be applicable to ANY agreement in your life (business or otherwise) have everything in writing - both sides confirming what each party is responsible for - never assume.
