So just building a site and hoping for google love? I doubt you'd exceed 2 digit numbers for that entire year...

Bullshit.

It may not get any search engine love nowadays, but links from a good site will get you good traffic if you are getting links from the right place.

Links from the wrong place will hurt you for sure.

I happen to have a site, that while it is not Wordpress, matches the criteria.

No backlinks to speak of. I have not even attempted to do any link building or exchanges. It is getting pretty much only Organic Google traffic. PR 0. 3 links listed in Google if you search for site:sitename.

It went up earlier this year but did not get any traffic to speak of until May so I did a screen shot of analytics from May 1 through now.

It has sent 25,431 hits to the sponsor and generated $85.00 since May 1. If I had gone with all free signups then it would have generated $131 but I have it doing 50/50 between free and revshare so it has done about $50 in Free signups and $35 in revshare. Beer money but even Beer money is money, ya know?

It is an experiment of sorts. I have no idea why Google has it ranked for the search terms it does but it is on first page for several pretty good terms.

It does not, imho, deserve the rankings or traffic that Google has given it but I am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth and I am changing nothing on it until Google stops showing love. ;p

.

Many probably won't believe me but I started an adult WordPress site made up only of unique text content in 2012 and within 12 months I was making $1200 a month. I never built a single back link and the majority of the hits were organic from Google.

I did put in a lot of work and for the first three months I updated daily with only a few exceptions. Income six months in was almost nothing. By twelve months it was doing very well. I've since sold the site (through GFY actually) and it is now making more than $2000 a month.

So it's absolutely possible to make a living from it if everything works out well. On the other hand, I've made some other sites that didn't make any income at all after six months.

Surfers liked the content and you had low bounce rate + high "time on site"?

did you use google analytics? if yes, then you gave insight to google that your surfers liked the site (low bounce rate, a lot of pages opened + long visits). probably some good sites picked up your texts, and provided a high-value backlink.

that formula and 0 work I doubt You'll make anything more than pocket change. You dont make any money unless you really WORK it.

My experience in porn is that its a snowball effect: you work everyday and find that the work you did 4 weeks ago is starting to get noticed and picked up by other sites and getting you sales today.
and if you keep going everyday then it builds up. When you stop working then the traction stops and you have to start over.

If you're trying to do a formula like "If 1 website makes me $5/month then 1,000 similar websites will make me $5,000/month" it doesnt work like that.

The money you make in any business comes from the consistent work you or your hired staff put into it. There is no other formula. There is no "set it and forget it" formula.

I've met a few successful webmasters and I never met anyone who opened a website, did nothing, and made real money.
I HAVE seen people make money fast but they worked for it or hired people to work it for them.

Rinse and repeat. Do this twenty times and that's now paying your mortgage.

Don't get me wrong... Blogs do not make as much as they used to, but $2k a month is $2k a month.

Exactly right.

You would open a pay site, and clip store, and drive traffic back and forth and make some nice real world cheddar. When I am talking real world, I am talking about the U.S. average that most of them are clearing in a month. However, that still requires some level of work. As others have said, anything online is going to take SOME effort to keep the fires stoked.

There is no fire and forget, no maintenance ever, millionaire kind of deal that I am aware of. All require 'some' level of work.

make 5-10 unique posts per day and you will see 1k+ / month.

google and people are like hungry bitch they want fresh, unique , intersting content , you give them what they want and you will start making money.,

btw i would do it with adult instead i would do something in mainstream where i can get paid cpc and even get google love.

Within 1 year?
Maybe a few years ago you'd be making money off some Google love but with this strategy (just this) honestly, you'll be making next to nothing.

If you are planning on monetizing a wordpress site, that's a great foundation but you really need more, even though by default WP is optimized you shouldn't rely on just that and that alone. Not saying you need to be buying traffic, but if you're looking to get some organic traffic you need to be actively pushing it with some proactive offsite marketing like linkbaits, social, etc. and building relevancy.

QFT... a few will make decent money... but most will not.. try and find out

I can only answer the first question, the thing with Wordpress is that there's a limit of about $3200 per site. So if you want to earn more than that you need to build more.

why isn't anyone with earning/building ideas factoring in all the time spent with all the work involved in their versions? Does everyone work for free here?
