PornCMS vs Elevated X CMS

I'm getting ready to launch a new paysite. It will be small at first, just 50 videos or so. I've just spent the last hour reading threads here about CMS products and I think I have it narrowed down to either the low cost ($89) entry level version of Elevated X or PornCMS, but before I pull the trigger I wanted to ask for any new opinions about these two, or is there another I should consider?

I think the things I want most are a CMS that is fairly easy to set up and maintain, offers a responsive design for my site, has good customer support and provides a good user experience for my subscribers. And because I'm a new site, something that doesn't cost too much, so I can put more money into content.

I have also researched alot of this and have not been able to make up my mind. I am leaving more towards PornCMS because;

1. One time payment
2. Has a Pay Per View option

I wish there was something with it all.

you would have an easy time beating ElevatedX on price, perfomance and functionality. just try a demo of both systems and its a no-brainer. PornCMS is much easier and faster in every way.

I can't see any reason for going custom on what would amount to a very normal paysite model. Unless the OP is looking to do something so out of left field and revolutionary, most of the currently available CMS should suffice. A very basic CMS would set most people back about $10K (based on 200 man hours at $50/hour) and aspiring to the feature sets of applications like Elevated X or PornCMS would be exponentially more expensive.

What befuddles me is, when people ask what affiliate software they should use, no one suggests "Custom is the best". They suggest industry standards like NATS or MPA. Why is a paysite CMS any different? And why suggest custom to a startup? It just doesn't make sense to be perfectly honest.

Elevated X is a superior product especially if you plan to expand. And staying small like that wont do you much good.

I use EX, and think it is excellent, but I have 22 sites on it, for alot of sites its the best choice imo. May be overkill with just 1 site but if you plan to expand then id go that way. For responsive you need their mobile plugin, which is $50 extra. Also the video transcoder is an extra $50 per month, with 1 site you could encode yourself though.

I see on the EX site they are doing $49 per month startup, without their support (naked hosting provides the support) - seems like a good deal with hosting, decent bandwidth for 1 site.

Exactly right. I know, I've done it. I have built multiple CMS's and it's not for the weak.

It is insanely expensive and time consuming to develop your own, especially if you're not a programmer. I would only recommend doing it if there is nothing else you can't bend and twist into what you ultimately want and need. Something that PornCMS makes available to you if needed (i.e. custom programming), I believe for additional expense.

Unless you have actually used multiple industry standard CMS's on any level, making such a remark is utter nonsense. There is no "best" one size fits all anything. It ultimately comes down to what is best for that particular end user.

I can tell you from actual experience with many different content management systems such as ElevatedX, MechBunny, PornCMS, SiteDepth all have their various strengths and weaknesses. Some are better suited for different things.

QFT! We created our own CMS in house, something that I wouldn't even have attempted if I had to farm it out.

Prior to creating our own we used a bastardized version of mechbunny and was quite happy with it. Konrad was great when it came to helping out and making the mods we requested.

True dat. I have had Konrad bend and twist MB into a number of different custom uses for different pay sites and free sites. He is very good at getting you what you need. Plus, he is fairly accessible and timely in regard to support.

I have my own custom CMS... and if you do complicated or unusual things, it sure is nice to never be told 'well, we can't do that'... that said I have also used ElevatedX quite a bit while working with clients of mine and it does do a very nice job (as I mentioned earlier). Even more importantly, they do provide excellent support which is the most important part of any out of the box product. If you are looking for a complete package solution, ElevatedX is a very nice platform to use.

AJ is right tho. we all have very different cms products and each site/client has different tastes and needs. pick the one that feels right to you.

OP here. Thanks for all the comments. I thought it might be obvious but to clarify, I will be starting off small so I don't have the cash for a custom CMS. I'd rather put the money I have into content creation. That's why I'm looking for a CMS that is established and budget friendly. Hopefully my site will grow so I can add more features and options to my CMS.

I think I'll try the demos of the various CMS's mentioned in this thread to figure out which works best for me.

hence 'imo', im entitled to one, I too have worked with most of the common CMSs, including some you did not list and custom, my opinion is not utter rubbish - i work with over 20 programmes on various platforms. For multiple sites i prefer EX and would recommend it to anyone. The OP asked for an opinion, I gave him one.
