Oil schizophrenia

Oil schizophrenia - The US still imports about 40% of our oil needs. We have tons of natural gas and yet as a nation we will not move from one to the other for our cars. Nor will we embrace the electric car.

We will send our troops into any oil rich region but to actually change anything at home is out of the question. As a nation we seem to lack the ability to do any long range planning.

We burn $1.2 Billion a year in natural gas just in the Bakken.

The rush to implement North Dakota's new flaring standards.

"Every day, drillers in the Bakken burn off about 350 million cubic feet of natural gas. That comes to more than $100 million worth of gas burned off each month?a figure that makes the state's mineral rights holders' unhappy."

US is oligarchy based on quite recent study. Maybe there is couple influencial oil oligarchs? You know, there is long range planning, but for the benefit of the oil oligarchs?

It appears we are witnessing the downfall of the roman empire.

Research it a bit, it goes in stages. First you have the wealth, the people who started it all, great ideas and dreams for the future.

Your now in the stage of bloated wealth, over indulgence.. the stage where it all falls apart.

Good luck with that

Btw your leaders are ass raping you. But thats a conspiracy theory, so we should ignore that and pretend its all good.. cause TV told you conspiracies dont exist.

Even thought, a conspiracy is defined as two or more people conspiring in secret to do an illegal act, so two bums robbing a liquor store is a conspiracy.

Hmm, I don't know about that. I'm seeing more and more electric and hybrids on the road these days, Tesla just opened a new dealership here in Montreal which is the biggest one in Canada, and there are tens of thousands of EV charging stations in cities across the country.

One of the biggest problems with Natural gas is the infrastructures and transport of that gas to gas stations. The infrastructure for electricity is already here and every home already has it.

Another big problem with Natural gas is that it has to be super cooled to be in liquid form, and the natural gas tank takes up a lot of room in a car.

It is probably not cost efficient to separate, compress and transport the natural gas.

Would it be profitable to use the gas to create compressed hydrogen that could be transported to Omaha and used as agricultural power? I think that proximity to market is the issue here.

If diesel could be replaced with hydrogen... Many agricultural products are truck transported and I cannot see why hydrogen fuel could not be distributed by truck on the route to Chicago from there -- just swap out the trailers in a yard in Chicago to diesel rigs for further distribution.

The advantage is the test run of developing hydrogen fuelled distribution and transport. Gas is burned off wells in California and Texas too. So this idea could create regional production in oil producing areas and open new opportunity for natural gas exploration in areas not served by pipelines to markets.

Don't hold your breath until the collapse of the "US Empire" you will end up blue in the face

The US uses natural gas to make electricity. Moving to electric cars would use our more abundant resource in place of oil. So the same thing.

Brazil has made their cars use natural gas and it seems ok.

The article said we burn it off because we do not have capacity. If we used it, we would have more open capacity.

Natural gas is not very suitable for cars. Some people here convert petrol engines to natural gas, there are conversion kits on the market with affordable price, and there are natural gas stations around. But while natural gas is cheaper it has higher octane number, higher combustion temperature and it wears down engines faster than petrol. Also it is (arguably) more dangerous, it has more chances to just blow up.

Natural gas is very good for heating, especially central heating, for cooking stoves, for many industries which requires high temperature. It is usually cheaper than masut. Also it is very ecologically clean fuel.

Tons of countries use it. And it is cheaper.

And the danger factor seems to have been removed.
