I was in my freshman year in college, broke like a bitch.
Internet was mostly dial-up, DSL connection was only available on campus.
so after classes, I went to the computer lab to register with Adult Revenue Services and the likes like GammaCash, and post those affl links on the forums. easy 4k/month.
I rent a spot on Yahoo search engine (google didn't come put yet) for 600$/month top 10 spot on certain keywords, send the traffic to your website, pulled in 10K/month easy with the dialer program.

Now I bet you guys must work really hard to make a little. All the fucking free sites kill this biz. I would never pay a dime for porn again because Pornhub and Xvideos make my old dick cum in less than 5 minutes.
The government should shut down free sites, then porn will be a trillion dollars business.
We didn't have bitcoin and alt coins back then, now everyone in the world can pay to see porn without revealing their identity.

Think about it, something must change to make porn a trillion dollars biz.

I went mainstream and then gave up on online business because I took a job as a professor at a higher ed institution. I dedicate all my time to research about clean energy and digital transportation (something like you break stuff into atoms, transfer it somewhere and then regroup those).

I didn't start porn til I was 30 in early 2001. Those were the good ole days that no matter what TGP you made that day you were going to make money from it. I think I made like $300+ from a lightspeed gallery one day listed on Hun.

But we aren't getting those days back anytime soon thanks to tubes.

Another old timer here too - I helped a half dozen cam girls run solo sites (ashley's dorm, sara cam, lil addiction, to name a few) until GeoBill (sp?) went under and took all mine (and the girls') money too. It was nice being in college and making big bucks like that....the good 'ol days. That was the beginning of the free porn era and it all went down hill from there. So I can definitely relate, glad I'm not the only one that misses the easy times. Thank God for cryptocurrency - working a normal 40hr/wk job is my nightmare.

Well not necessarily back to those days, but there's a lot of traffic and A LOT of eyeballs for free if you have good content. The concept is still the same; tease them with your content. You don't need to give all the juicy parts away for free. If the content is good enough and they want to watch YOUR content, they will pay...providing you clean up all the stolen stuff.

I relaunched an old site in feb of 2020 - here's my weekly sales growth:

Most of that is all free tube traffic so porn does sell.
