I can't get behind the "fanatic Crossfit" thing, but I love it. Sure gets you in shape fast, with the right nutritional intake

It's a good way to get injured, trying to do 10 power cleans as fast as possible. A lot of people jump into it and don't pay attention to proper form.

about sums it up.. hehe

What bothers me is I've been using a lot of the same movements for years for athletics purposes and now everyone thinks they can just jump in and run with it. technique definitely doesn't come over night and there is little forgiveness when it comes to free weights.

I do kettlebell intervals in the woods, I made a diy wooden horizontal ladder, wooden dip deck, a climbing rope and some logs I use to toss around...Indoor crossfit is limited, you can not throw around heavy stuff + working out at -10C in the fresh air is heaven...Its just a patch in the woods 15min from my house, I put a chain and lock on the kettlebells the rest is bolted in...theres a small tarp strung out between 4 trees to act as shelter from rain...I alternate the crossfit workouts with mountain biking, 3-4 hours in the woods EOD with 1 day pause/week

every time there is a thunder storm I am 100% certain my bells will get hit because they are the only metal around but it has not happened so far

I'm kind of glad the crossfit craze hasn't hit over here (that I know of). Though my gym has been introducing the non-initiated into the world of kettlebells lately and they got a bunch of 2kg weights. o_O

I have yet to figure out what you can do with 2kg weights unless you've done a serious protocol and lifting your water bottle is a chore.

Though I did this to myself with a 8kg weight by repeatedly hitting my biceps when my trainer was attempting to teach me how to snatch. This is the most serious thing I did to myself with a kettlebell, but I can feel when I get sloppy with form. I could only imagine someone who has no idea about form trying some of this stuff.

You don't see crossfit people doing serious weights for that reason. And it is not as fast as possible. Don't believe the joke video. Lower weights with more reps and keep the heart rate up.

If you want to tone and burn some fat it is a nice way to get back to the gym as it doesn't take long.

Don't do cross fit, but I do keep the heart rate up when I lift weights. Also saves time.

That video is pretty funny haha

There is no defined system for "Cross fit". There is no defined program. There are no defined goals and objectives. It is each gym, doing 100% its own thing and making shit up as they go and trying to be cool and interesting and different (i.e. dangerous). There is nothing that you will do in a cross fit gym that can't be done anywhere else. Light weight. High reps. Low rest period. And plyometrics. There is nothing special happening. As always, all the "new stuff" is the "old stuff", repackaged.

Maybe a guy training people in his gym or your place, really has his shit together. I'm sure many do. However, I am equally sure that the vast majority do not. I've been in that biz for a long time. What I see in almost any place i've been in, is thoroughly appalling.

This is a perfect example of why kettlebells are not a great idea. First, you'll be banging your forearm when you flip the weight over. It hurts like hell. Second, you are at risk for tearing your shoulder up. It's fine when a trained person who is strong, coordinated, experienced and has good balance is doing this kind of stuff. But I see far too many people who shouldn't be doing the movements they are doing and are doing them poorly.

It's also worth pointing out that most "trainers" in chain gyms and most in general are not overly bright. Most personal training certification tests are still open book tests.

Crossfit not even once. Theres enough injury risk lifting weights at a normal rate of speed. Then you introduce fast pace + heavy weight in a class setting...no thank you! Fact of the matter is you will only cross fit as good as the trainer you have and 9/10 times you'll be trained by someone who took a 6 week certification class and thinks they know everything.

I can see how one could get injured. There are a lot of really bad coaches. When it comes to any bar work, I take it easy on the weights... and slow down. I don't give a shit about my time, as long as I know I pushed myself. I also really HATE team work-outs (WODS), because then it's all about time etc... so I just don't do them.

I love muscle ups, handstand push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups... body weight stuff. Also the rowing is awesome, even-though I hate it when I do it.
