Gay porn - Is condom use common?
Wondering how many of the big gay porn sites mandate condom use?
Do most sites offer both protected and unprotected, just depending on the scene? Or up to each performer? |

It's mostly by studio. Randy Blue is all condom, Sean Cody is all bareback and does quick tests/certifications for HIV, Treasure Island Media is all bareback and owner Paul Morris has a strong political/social stance against vilification of those with HIV. Dallas Reeves' studio is bareback, but is getting some flack from a model who claims Reeves is hiding his HIV status. Reeves may lose models and business from it, and once you work for Paul Morris, you'd better hope he has a contract for you because you're pretty much blacklisted from other studios.
There's no small amount of debate between the studios/producers about this divide in philosophy. In fact, the conversation as it plays out in the adult gay media resembles the last several years in the U.S. legislature. This interview with Morris gives you a good idea of the personal convictions and lines drawn in the sand: A Porn Director Stirred Up Controversy by Making a Movie Centered Around HIV | VICE | United States

What little Gay porn I do watch, that has buttfucking, uses condoms for the most part. As a producer I don't see myself filming guys fucking without condoms, I've yet to do it in 15 years.

Glad to get the info in text format, I sure wouldn't want to have to actually watch it and find out.

Hey, thanks for the comments everyone I think I have a better idea.
So if we mandate condom only for a gay porn thing we're thinking about, that's not going to be a huge deal? |

Bareback may have higher sales, but obviously it can open a can of worms.

Mostly condoms.
Some companies are going bareback. They're saying its because of advanced testing and Truvada, but they're really just desperate hypocrites going against everything they've ever said. Hypocrisy and desperation in porn? I know, I'm shocked myself. Truvada is still so new. I'm amazed that so many who who claim to value their health put stock in it. Would suck if in a few years it turns out there are a ton of side effects. It has its purpose for sure... like a way to keep mixed-status couples just that, but too many people are using it as a get out of jail free card to do whatever they want. They seem to forget that Hep C is just as prevalent and perhaps even more deadly. |

If you're shooting content and you want to mandate that go for it! Seems easier then all the paperwork and time involved with testing. It's best to know where your traffic is coming from, and what they'll want, if you intend to monetize your Gay content to the maximum. In regards to laws & regulations, I believe in the right for people to choose to do with their body what they wish. In porn, if both parties are tested for everything, and negative, let them do what they please, regardless of sexual orientation |

Classic Gay Porn, vintage stuff, is always bareback, which is why that niche sells forever. You can't make any more of it.

I'm not a condom advocate or doing this because I have an opinion on the matter one way or another. But I have a business, and I want to get into running a gay site, and we'll be dealing with a number of LGBT charities. They brought this up, and I want to ensure I'm making a good decision for my business. You make a good point about singling out gay people as it relates to condom use though... My first thought about that is that they kind of do it themselves. They actually have the popular word "bareback" and seem to draw a pretty thick line in the sand over it. While in straight porn, there just isn't the same stigma. |
