OBAMA adminstration moves to ban .223 ammunition

https://www.nraila.org/articles/2015...mon-ar-15-ammo

In a move clearly intended by the Obama Administration to suppress the acquisition, ownership and use of AR-15s and other .223 caliber general purpose rifles, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives unexpectedly announced today that it intends to ban commonplace M855 ball ammunition as ?armor piercing ammunition.? The decision continues Obama?s use of his executive authority to impose gun control restrictions and bypass Congress.

This is funny because previously the M855 ball ammunition had been removed from the AP list.

More info here
Military Ammunition and Why Green Tip M855 is Not Armor Piercing : ITS Tactical

So for the liberals that have said over and over again that Obama is not after our guns, yes they are, just going to take away the bullets attacking what the Supreme Court has said about fire arms which is written in the constitution.

Sounds like a bullshit way for the makers of 223 ammo to move a LOT of product really fast...

The same way they sold a SHITLOAD of AR-15's after the Sandy Hook shootings and all the bullshit rumors that were started then about assault gun bans...

Paranoia sells products in America... we are a society based on fear and consumption...

Go to the ATF website and find where they mention this anywhere... and THEN come back and apologize to everyone for spreading paranoid right wing lies...

Not done yet, and it's up in the air if it will or not. Especially with public backlash. Even the military doesn't use M855 ammo anymore. It does have sporting uses, and the proposed ban will be violently fought against.

Won't be fought against much if Obama does an executive order. Banning an ammo calling it AP when it clearly isn't shows the lengths the current administration will go to for it's agenda.

He's going to rally the republicans and cost his party the presidency over shit like this

Sport shooting, hunting, home defense, it's a very common round.

It's armor piercing rounds, not all .223 rounds. Our village Biker Gnome doesn't read his own articles. I can't think of too many hunters whom use AP ammo to hunt with, but hey lets not get in the way with actual common sense when the Biker Gnome is running amok.

It's been a week since he's had anything to be out ragged about after all..

also most shooting ranges also ban these same rounds.. oh why do the shooting ranges hate our Freedom!!!

Honestly, who cares? It's just a bullet, and Obama is HARDLY coming for your guns. Maybe these bullets are just too dangerous for civilians to have? Who knows, who cares? I'm pretty sure this small move won't put a dent in any gun lovers collection.

These idiots fall for it over and over and over again.

It's funny how the Obama administration is supposed to be so dysfunctional and foiled by inept leadership, yet manage to take away something every other day.

It is armor piercing but was given an exception and removed from the ban list. I know nothing about ammo but I read the NRA link above.

I didn't mean the caliber, I meant that specific ammo that is to be banned. I have .222, and every ammo has some specific use/ usage scenario.

they want the caliber, not a specific maker or round, Their excuse is that it can be used in a pistol, i know someone that has a 45.70 in a pistol, that round was used for buffalo rifles

Defeating Ballistic Garments
Soft body armor appears to have little effect on the calibers ability to penetrate and actually seemed to enhance the 40-grain Blitz’s depth of penetration in soft tissue.

From a law enforcement standpoint, the ability of the .223 caliber round to defeat soft body armor, military ballistic helmets and many ballistic shields is a "double-edged sword." The criminal use of body armor is rare, but increasing. Possessing the ability to penetrate and adversary’s protective vest is obviously desirable. However, this round will also defeat law enforcement vests, so great care must be exercised in laying out and observing fields of fire in training and during operations. With this concern over potential fratricide in mind, voices have been raised in some quarters regarding this bilateral tactical attribute. A number of veteran officers strongly embrace The traditional concept that a department’s duty rounds should not exceed the capabilities of their vests. Arguably, this is a sound approach for any law enforcement agency to take for its non-tactical response personnel. However, SWAT, because of its specialized missions, may be a different matter and this later concern, while important, should not dominate the rationale supporting weapons selection by highly competent tactical units.
About .223 Penetration

You don't need to hunt with .223. ***over 40grains
The only logical thing to "hunt" that might be wearing wearing soft body armor is a man ...

I don't have .223, but I have .222. I have 50 grain (3,2 g) bullets for fox hunting, and these are lighter ones from two popular bullet weights. Then there are 3,6 g bullets, whatever it makes in grains.

Due to the unbelievably massive number of Americans (ZERO) that have been killed by armor-piercing .223 bullets, the BO administration is spending resources and political points to ban the projectile, thus saving thousands and thousands of Americans (from ourselves).

Thanks OBAMA!

its an issue of the source buddy. regardless what NRA claims its source is, its still NRA & NRA has no credibility on facts. not too suprising they found an ATF agent to mouthoff their agenda. i believe they think the answer to newtown is more armed teachers....nutters!!!!

so you sourcing an organization with the same cred as ISIS only reflects poorly on your intellectual heft.

my guess is the law enforcement lobby wants this bullet off the street, to protect cops wearing armor. leave it the the NRA to oppose the safety of cops in the name of gun freedom.

Although they haven't banned guns in Australia. Gun ban in Australia felt so unbelievable that I had to check it out. You know, much rural areas and such (hunting, etc.).

guess you think the second amendment means nothing? pure speculation with nothing to back it up, same as usual

think about that

This is quite the experience. I've read about the brain dead NRA...but had hoped they were like the sasquatch, and simply urban folklore. But here we have some actual living and breathing specimens posting on this forum. Wow, this is a special day..

I'm no longer a card carrying NRA member, so I'm open...... What's the endgame for BO spending executive [order] resources to ban this round?

It's the only AP round that has not been banned because it was given an exception prior or fell through the cracks, I'm not sure which. Vendzilla is just getting butt hurt because of Obama..

why are we wasting government resources and limiting rights banning AP ammo? how many people die to AP ammo? How many cops die to AP ammo? this is the "cop killer" round right? pretty sure that's all media bullshit.

good point, me view is anything that involves the government banning our shit demands our asking questions. banning shit is a slippery slope, it doesn't matter if it's AP ammo or abortions or WTFever.

I get that AP bullet, but what is this talk about bullet weights? Some misunderstanding or is it really going to be limited in US?

Heavier bullets do have more penetration capability, but .223 was designed as fast to have flat trajectory and to cause much tissue damage. Banning heavier bullets might lessen penetration but lighter bullets cause more damage to tissue (unarmoured targets). .223 bullets weighting less than 40 grains are quite "explosive". Not that those lighter bullets should be banned, but I don't see the point in limiting those as the only bullets to be available for that caliber.

Example:

"V-MAX™ Bullets

Hornady’s V-MAX bullets consistently achieve rapid fragmentation at all practical varmint shooting velocities."

Hornady Manufacturing Company :: Ammunition :: Rifle :: Choose by Caliber :: 223 Rem :: 223 Rem 40 gr V-MAX®

I think when they originally banned AP bullets, they used weight of each type of AP round or something along those lines. Somehow this round fell through the cracks or was ignored.
