Why Do Some People Hate Marijuana So Much?

WHY?

No one dies from marijuana, unlike so many other drugs, including alcohol and nicotine. People are mellow and get the munchies when they smoke, they do not get violent or disruptive. Medical marijuana helps people with debilitating illnesses.

It's a natural plant and one of the only ones on Earth that grows practically everywhere, in almost any climate. For those religious people out there: why did GOD populate his creation with something harmful? He didn't, he gave us marijuana which HELPS people in so many ways.

Marijuana is a value-changing drug. Perhaps this is why so many hate it? It makes people THINK, and turns them inward so they can examine their values, beliefs and actions. Once someone goes down this path they find it very hard to buy the party line of constant, neverending war. Is this the reason so many people hate marijuana?

Seriously, the anti-weed vitriol seems totally whacky, as if the opponents were the ones stoned. LOL But I would like to hear some reasoned arguments as to why people HATE marijuana so much.

Here in The Netherlands we love marijuana. But our politicians are trying to criminalize it and it's getting harder and harder to grow that shit. You can sell it in a coffeeshop, you can smoke it, but growing it is illegal.. That's the most stupid law in this whole goddamn country.

THIS is the silliest post so far (and all that agree with it). Sure, some plants are poisonous and harmful BUT MARIJUANA IS NOT. The fact that it is natural is the point. It is not "man-made" (some strains and methods notwithstanding). But comparing it to other poisonous plants as a "reason" to not like it is retarded. Sorry Sly but I know the history of marijuana very, very well. I used to write for High Times magazine so probably know more about the plant than most on here. But this thread is NOT about "defending" marijuana use. It is an exploration into why some people HATE weed. Those that dig it and understand it do not need to defend anything. LOL

So far the only "reasons" I see here are:

Other plants are poisonous therefore pot is dangerous (retarded idiocy there)
It's a "gateway" drug. Nonsense - MANY people smoke pot and nothng else.

For people with psychotic disorders like paranoia there are strains of MJ that have been shown to make them worse.

Others know people who've been in the system because they became criminals when they started smoking it. Being in the system is a one way trip for most and it doesn't get better.

Others see the laziness associated with abusing weed, and somehow think it's worse than abusing any other substance. (alcohol, junk food, sugar, tabacco)

Others I note that many impulses become much harder to ignore when smoking, like the urge to eat, make love, play music, or sleep and since self control is in pretty short supply these days I guess they just don't want any additional incentive to not be moderate.

Others (myself included) get pretty frustrated trying to get shit done when everybody wants to be stoned all the time. I use weed pretty regularly but not when I am working and I use it in very low doses, just enough to settle down after a stressful day, not enough to ever feel impaired or immobilized. - I've gotten there by accident once or twice but I am pretty careful these days.

I have no issues with weed and people who smoke it.


For me; I choose not to smoke it. I personally get nothing done when I smoke. I also don't drink. But thats me.


I do have a lot of friends that smoke and are very productive and successful. I also have friends that smoke weed and get nothing done.


I think that weed should be legal and made accessible to anyone and everyone who is over the age of 21 who wants it. Let people figure out what they like or don't like without going to jail.


For me or anyone who thinks its OK to dictate what others can have and not have is wrong. Let people make their own decisions as I have done. I tried it, not for me, all good.

The truth is that Marijuana is not a single drug. It is several different strains and each has its potency and its CBD vs THC ratios.
On top of that, people can react differently to each of the strains of Cannabis.
Another determining factor is the age at which a person starts smoking. If started before 16 years old the damage can be much greater than the ones that started in adulthood.

To answer your question, why some people hate it some much:
1- Not the right type of person for weed
2- Only tried the wrong strains for him/ her
3- Have friends who are not suited for cannabis that smoke and give negative impression
4- Never tried because they are/were misinformed and programmed
5- Hypocrites who smoke every day and pretend that they hate it (I know so many of those)
6- People that like to constantly be in control

Great attitude

Though I joke around about 420 on here a lot I smoked a handful in my entire life. Long story short, got my license early last year due to a stoner hottie I had great sex with on weed. Big mistake! I'm an A type personality and smoking even twice a week had real bad consequences for me. Stuff you're not warned about being a newbie. So haven't smoked but twice in 6 months. Hate the smell, hate the taste, love the feeling when I want to go extremely slowly and chill.

I don't know how daily smokers, do it, but it should be your right to do with your body what you please

This is why some people might hate marijuana or at least the result of marijuana use:

1. Adults turning into giggling bitches
2. Shameless begging hippies (read: braindwarfs unable to take full responsability for their lifes and situation) that beg or try to manipulate one other to get some bucks for their daily need of infancy.
3. The hipster language these potheads come up with after smoking...
"Yo yo dude are you trippin... chill out man... piece man hihihihi"
4. These small red eyes that you just want to hit hard to make em even smaller,
and these annoying smiles on their faces that you just want to eradicate by hitting it of their faces when you want/need to have - a normal or serious conversation with them.

Maybe some people have experiences like above regarding to marijuana users in their enviroment. That is why some people might hate it... Marijuana and marijuana-users are two different things but most people simply have a problem with causalities.

Again, L-Pink you are smarter than this post (perhaps not on this point?). I did not say weed should be legal JUST BECAUSE it is natural. My point (and you know it) was that the arguments AGAINST weed are so superscilious and filled with DOOM that's it's unrealistic propaganda. The fact that weed grows naturally all over the world, and people do NOT die from it, is a strong argument FOR it, especially when compared to pharmaceuticals and other man-made "cures". C'mon now.

I won't get into a semantic arguemtn wit you Sly so I will concede the point that my thread does 'defend' the use of marijuana. However, L-Pink and others are going the other direction, saying just because it's natural doesn't make it ok. Well again, weed is NOT poisonous and is far, far less so than the chemicals people put in their bodies on a regular basis. So rejecting weed because it's natural and grows freely everywhere without deaths associated with it, thinking somehow that weed's naturalness is a negative, is silly to me and NOT a reasoned argument against its' use.
