Fighting Chargebacks effectively, any tips?

Guys,

Looking for some tips on how to fight chargebacks effectively.

Getting started on the first cases:

# Example case - Customer claims his purchase is fraudulent whilst having logged in to the members area on multiple occasions downloading over 6300mb of content. The IP address is an exact match to his geographical location. The customer never contacted the customer support to resolve the case and went straight for a chargeback.

Think have a pretty good case against the member, anyone got any tips?

PS: Feel free to spam any chargeback related services. Would like to know more about them.

Thanks in advance

You mean mitigating them in the first place Or once you get the rare chargeback, trying to fight the chargeback?

Have you posted on his Facebook or Twitter yet demanding payment? J/K

I'm sure a service will chime in saying they have a good track record for fighting chargebacks.

You deal in high risk digital goods. Send all documentation in an easy to read condensed format. You can also directly contact the consumer in a professional non threatening way. Consumers who CB to often do get blacklisted.

^^exactly. definitely dispute it with your bank. I experienced the same thing recently, my site received a cb that was clearly a case of friendly fraud. In providing proof of my dispute I sent in the transaction details that demonstrated that he used a correct name and address, and I also took a screencap of a google search of his email address, which just happened to match the name and address used in the booking. his IP also matched up with the address. asshole.

the bank and the cc company sided with me though, and the cb was reversed.

Contact me when you have a couple charge backs - let me have a crack at them. =) Mine are much different than yours I'm sure, but collections are collections when it comes down to it.

If all goes well then you can just pay per charge back collected and pass that fee on to the customer.

You can get me on skype, makeabuck

Dear Alex FS

Please know that I am not an attorney, but am employed by a company which focuses on recovering monies for the merchants after the chargeback dispute has been lost.

The most important step you should take, is to file the dispute with the bank and provide as much evidence as you can. During this time consider sending the consumer a well written letter by post. Demand that they withdraw the chargeback claim, or else you will exercise your right to file a theft/fraud report with police local to him/her, and provide the police the evidence you have. You can explain that these steps are being taken, as part of your intent to file a complaint in court and/or have a debt collector recover the funds plus costs.

If you are interested in a professional service to step in, then consider registering with us. There are no upfront costs. Everything is managed on a No Recovery - No Fee business model.

I hope the little bit of advice helps you.

Sabrina F.

Some good advice from Bladewire. Remember to be professional but also firm with your intentions, if the consumer does not give you any other choice but to " ________".

Dear Sly, may I ask which company are you recommending?

Again excellent advice from JesseQuinn. Do not be afraid to file the dispute. Just make sure you provide as much details as possible to support your position.

Are you suggested a personal visit to the consumer MakeMeGrrrrowl?

If you are with CCBIll or Epoch then let them handle it, or not, either way.

If you have a private MID then take a screenshot of:

1) The gateway page showing a positive AVS response (if you don't have that don't bother)

2) Login log showing there was a login for that user where the IP matched the CC submit IP.

3) Any other onsite activity logs you may have showing the member browsed pages, downloaded content, etc.

Print it all, and fax it to the appropriate phone # with the chargeback paperwork you got in the mail outlining the dispute, along with a written, legible explanation why you feel the chargeback is unjustified. (stick to the facts and be brief)

With that you got about a 40% chance of getting the dispute overturned, in my experience, there doesn't seem to be any silver bullet for online merchants dealing in virtual goods, and, even if you win, you are still out the CB fees that your processor will hit you with and you still got the dispute on your record, so if the amount is small you may find it's not worth your time depending how busy you are, I generally do.

The buyer authenticates.

The seller is not liable for chargeback except in product disputes.

More and more Internet sellers are using these services especially for first time buyers.

Well in that case every charge back would be collected

But no - I was a bill collector for quite some time before my splash into adult entertainment, as was one of my managers who is the one who does all of my collecting. Before my husband was a SAHD he was a bill collector working for my ex who runs a collection agency.

Sure we may not follow all of the practices of the FDCPA - but shit gets done =)
