I had a beer today that was bred in space

Well, kind of anyway. Ninkasi Brewing Company's Ground Control; the yeast went to space before being used to brew a very nice Imperial Stout.

Guinness...i've never been able to drink more then a sip of it. I don't drink coffee - hate the taste, and guinness reminds me heavily of coffee. The only dark beer I had that I liked was that Kozel stuff from Czech Republic. Brought home a case of that as well as a beer called "Konrad" from Liberec

Imperial Stout is fucking awesome. Thick and heavy, and ass konrad said, kind of like coffee. Also high in alcohol content (at least the stuff I've had).

Same here.

My first trip to London was with two friends and we were trying out all kinds of beers available there... fuck that, each night ended up with heinken.

Seeing all those people in the pubs drinking guinness sip by sip was crazy

Heineken is terrible might as well save a few dollars and buy natty lite. Which is also terrible but the point is it's not really supposed to taste like much

Summertime is annoying because dark heavy beers get harder to find on tap

Lastly, how did the yeast go to space? Female astronaut have an infection?

While some Imperial Stouts definitely are coffee forward, this was much more chocolate forward with the combination of cocoa nibs and star anise. A 10% ABV with no booziness detected.

The last one is a session beer, 12 oz. If you need a cab after that you might want to stick with Coors Light (besides, the pic was taken in my kitchen).

It is a pilsner glass, meant to contain the extreme head they come with.

I truly appreciate your brew craft threads. Makes me feel like there still is something to learn on gfy.

And I get a lot of joy introducing people to the intricacies of craft beer. I need to educate the European webmasters that come here; very few seem to understand what we have to offer and with all the different cites they visit they have a unique opportunity. Beats drinking Heineken all the time.

Really good question. Most beers that have an ABV of say 10 or above can be cellared for years. I had one last year that was 21 years old.

Lower ABV beers are not really meant to be stored with the exception being Wild Ales or Sours. Age can be very kind to them.

Other low ABV beers like pilsners, lagers or IPAs might not go bad but flavor nuances will drop away with time.

Nooner is a nice session beer but if you can get Firestone's Pivo Pils I think that is a lot better, IMO.

Like baddog said.

For example: Imperial Stouts, Porters, and some the fine Belgian 'Trappist' Ales can be aged. As they mature, their character can mellow out and bring forth the subtitles that were previously subdued.

Goose Island's "Bourbon County" is good example of something that could be aged. In fact, I had a customer that saw we had several 2013's left and swiped them all up for this very reason. Chimay's Grand Reserve (Blue Label) is an example of a strong 'Trappist Ale' that has been known to be cellared. I'd read a review on a popular craft beer site where the reviewer compared a 1992 and a 1982 o.O! Review was written around 2004.

So, yes... generally speaking, it is the higher ABV darker ones of complex taste that can hold up. Checking out craft beer blogs/vlogs on the specific topic will give you more info, for sure. :-)

On a side note, having a Buddha's Juice from Wormtown Brewery (Worcester, MA.) as I write this. Last night, polished off a 6 pack of Sculpin Habanero. That was interesting lol!

I don't know that I know anyone that has done that. That beer is so irregular because there is no habanero extract available and there is no way to tell which pepper is going to be hotter than the other. I had it 2 or 3 years ago and it was tolerable but I thought this latest batch was excessively hot.

Of course, that is a beer that might improve with a little age so the heat dissipates a little.

I should've edited that by saying "managed" to polish off .

Honestly, once I'd finished the first three, my palate was ready to change it up. But alas, it had grown late in the night and I had no other beer (for some reason). I took a 30 minute break, became re-engaged in my web duties, got frustrated with my project, and got an impulsive hankerin' once again. The Sculpin Habanero was then revisited and eventually finished off.

Definitely a specialty beer to say the least. This was my first time trying it so I took note of the "heat may vary" message on the bottle and assumed other years (or current batches) could taste different.

Aside from that, I'm hoping to get my hands on just one bottle of Founder's KBS. There was only a few places around here that managed to get a case based on high sales. Even so, some sellers hoarded it for themselves and... there you go. :-/

Aside from that, I'm hoping to get my hands on just one bottle of Founder's KBS. There was only a few places around here that managed to get a case based on high sales. Even so, some sellers hoarded it for themselves and... there you go. :-/
I will never forget my first Habanero Sculpin. I was at a Ballast Point tap takeover in Manhattan Beach. The place was packed so we went to the bar to wait for an opportunity to get a seat where all the industry people were. goodgirl sat at the bar and I was standing behind her.

I had ordered a flight that included Habanero and just as I was taking my first sip, a waitress brought a plate of hot wings to the guy next to us. The combination of the Habanero and cayenne made me start sweating under my eyes like a good salsa should.

Where are you located?

Yeast from an air sealed packed, fresh

I drink my beer from my local German bar Cervecería bavaria - elaboración propia

The beer's brewed in the bar, it needs no additives or extra ingredients with all the natural vitamins & minerals, unlike other beers.

We rarely agree on anything, but tough to argue with Jman's response. However, if your beard is getting in your beer you might try braiding it.

it's the whiskers on the sides, where moustache meets beard, that seem to grab the beer out right out of the glass and then it just takes off! no probs with bottles and cans.
