You don't need a virtual server. shared hosting is fine to start and yes, sponsors will deal with you.

I started with a shared hosting account with Naked Hosting and only moved to dedicated once it became necessary.

There are 1,000s of experienced people with established sites, left or in the process of leaving the industry. Because they all very much do the same thing.

What are your skill sets, how much time and money can you devote and how much experience in anything do you have?

As you see there are a lot of people telling you to send them traffic, offering to sell you something and a couple being cautious.

just make sure you have all of your ducks in a row, have a plan and know what direction you are going to go before you start,

start off small with a niche that you like, if you are straight and like blonde babes with big tits that might be where you want to start, but if you decide to go the gay midget route and you are not into that type of stuff the surfer can tell and you will lose interest fast and wonder what went wrong,
