"I don't know anyone that's prepared for something like this," said Joanna Angel, a famous punk porn entrepreneur who owns and sells adult films on the website Burning Angel.

My thought is that the users were more upset about having over 95% fake female users than they were about their credit card info. Risky - but if these guys want to actually talk to real women - they'll take the chance. That to me is what's going to kill things - fake profiles not their private info as much

I used to think almost all the women on these dating sites were fake too. But then I started sending a decent amount of joins to some of these sites and by methods where I was able to track the sources a bit more than usual. To my surprise a lot of the women coming through the front door are real. Certain niches and marketing methods bring in more women than others though. There can be a big difference.

Now is that woman emailing you "let's hook up tonight, big boy!" real? Probably not. But some real women really are joining. Yeah 90% of total members are men though.

I've been asking all my female friends about this online dating thing, now that it's way more mainstream than it used to be. The math is working out that at least 90% of my female friends who aren't married have an active profile on at least one dating site. The ones who got married in the last 2 years or less all admit to having had a profile on a dating site. A few of my friends say this is the ONLY way they meet guys for dates.

Is it only protecting the server & the sites or the billing companies with all the payment processing info?

Lots of users of dating sites use fake names & email addresses. Is it all still a front for mass advertising for A M?

Thanks for the info and appreciate hearing your take on it. Whether it's an independant research saying 95 or 90% - that's still a huge number and would surprise most users who paid money. Not saying who but I've known a few dating sites to actually use call centers to automatically text male users for a fee thinking it gives the confidence that whoever you're liking is actually a woman.

I have no doubt some women are on there - but generally from those I talk to use plentyof fish or another cheap free dating site.
