What kind of car is this?
It has been parked at the end of my drive for a couple months. I've asked all the neighbors and they have no idea whose it is. I think someone abandoned it. Anyone know what kind of car is it? |

				 | Could be yours. While it's different from state to state, where I live if a car has sat in the same spot on yours or public property for something like 30 days, you can legally claim it.

				 | It's all fine and dandy until you find a dead body in the trunk. I can't see why anyone would abandon a car like that when it could easily fetch at least a couple of thousand from a classic collector/parts shop. |

				 | Sounds fair. What if parking tickets, but not expired registration? That would not mean that car was not moved during 30 days even once, or maybe even daily And what about OP's post - that spot does not seem to be one with paid parking. No tickets, how would you claim it? |

				 | I'm not sure why he'd want to. That's just an old car, it's not a classic. That impala I left was just parked on the street also, no paid parking. This was 1984ish when it happened, I don't recall the particulars. A lot of the 80s were a blur for me. |

				 | People can ask what they want for a car, but a solid running good conditiob 1965 Ford falcon that is driveable is a $6000 ish car. It's not a classic because its listed on classic car sales sites, its there because there are no thisisjustanoldcarforsale site. |

And wouldn't it be at least partially classic knowing that 1965 ford cost more than some 1990 or 1995 ford? 1995 ford drives much better, has newer technologies and all. So why does and old one cost more? Must have something to do with being at least partially classic, otherwise what else do you pay more for?

but desirability and rarity define a classic. if that car had a certain motor or impact on the automotive world or low production #s, it would be more classic than just an old car. the reason it would sell for more than a 95 Ford is it's more rare and desirable in certain circles than a 1995 Ford LTD for instance. so middle aged white guy got laid for the first time in the back of his parent's 1965 Ford and he want to relive the nostalgia. and overall, right now, it's cooler to tool around in a 1965 ford more so than a 1995 ford.

				 | it would be interesting to see what a restoration on that car would cost. the body does look straight. single small exhaust suggests the motor hasn't been farted with, as do the whitewalls. but the interior doesn't look good at all from here. the blankets covering up the seats suggest that interior needs a complete redo. looks like a FL plate and that means humidity, which will wipe out an interior and fast. that's a lot of cash to bring an interior back. the partially open hood is another concern, there may not even be a motor in there. it may be worth exploring. $5000 may get that thing back on the road and cruising down the blvd. $20000 on a worst case sitch. not considering a rotisserie resto, that'd run what $50k for that car i bet. |

Paint and panel goes for insane prices, however interior you can keep quite reasonable. It's definitely a classic to me

Rebuild an original 65 Ford motor would be ~$3000, and a nice paint job maybe $1500. Having to restore the interior would and does easily double the cost of the restoration.

Seats are not crazy expensive to get restored to stock, the materials can get expensive (on that car it would be vinyl so not expensive at all) and if you go really custom, it can become labour intensive. A mate of mine is an amazing interior guy and watching him work is really impressive. He just finished a dash and two seats for me, double stitched marine vinyl, black with dark grey stitch. Looks amazing and was $1k(AUD so ~$700 USD) which includes two custom bags to match the interior. The paint and panel is the most open ended thing you can do on a car. It is impossible to know exactly what is hidden under the paint and how long it will take to fix from looking at a car. Unless of course you don't fix anything and simply paint over the old paint. I have two cars right now that I will put in a shipping container and send over to whoever it is you can get a nice paint job for $1500. If you are talking only paint and nothing else, well yes ok no worries. The prep work is the real cost of a paint job.

you could not get even 1 seat fully reupholstered for $700 here. 2 benches like in that car would easily be a $2500 reupholstery job. + the dash and you are already at $5000+. replacing the carpet adds another $1000

I'm just thinking the most expensive interior i've ever done was $5k(AUD) and it is absolutely mint. 1960's car and it was really flogged out in the interior - all replaced to standard, seats, carpet, hood liner, door cards, dash, console. Plastic chrome was ontop of this forget the cost maybe $1k(AUD) from memory. Looking back at that example, I remember that was only that much because we had to source the materials from a specific wholesaler because I wanted it to exactly match standard (standard had a pattern that you press into the material - hotpress?? forget what the process is called). Paint on the other hand, well $5k gets you no where and gets burnt up real quick if you are paying for all the prep work - removing rust and straightening panels costs a bloody fortune
