How to win with Airline credit cards & rewards

I'm thinking of joining Delta's gold card, you pay annually for this. But you get 50k miles bonus from starting off.
Also get 2 miles per $1 spent on Delta and 1 mile per $1 spent other things.

If I pay this credit card off every month so that I'm using it a lot, gaining a lot of miles, then paying it off avoiding interest, isn't this allowed?

Wondering if anyone has experience with this. Please post

Thx

Most certainly it's allowed and the point of the card.

Yes, the card's points are not tied to interest. Back when I used to fly a lot I was in a program for Delta, though it wasn't called gold card back then. I would have my clients book me flights with my number if their own corporation didn't have a similar account of their own.

I also bought lots of things through the card and paid the balance each month. I was able to fly just about anywhere I wanted for free on account of racking up all of the miles through purchases or having clients fly me around on their dime while racking up points for me.

Eventually I sold the miles for a nice chunk of change and became more of a sit around the house kind of guy. Now I prefer to drive places and see all of the things that were micro sized at 30,000 feet.

You want the reserve card, you get MQM's for spending, which can bump you into the next elite tier.

That is exactly ho it works, pay for everything on the card, pay it off every month and fly for free. I have a Marriott rewards card, and I get a free night every year on my anniversary date and the points just keep adding up. You can use them for hotel stays or airline tickets, etc.
best thing I ever did as far as points programs.

My brother does this - he owns a bike shop. He'll buy everyone for the bike shop on credit, and then quickly pay it off. He never pays for airline tickets.

I prefer cash back but miles are nice too. I charge everything.

A bag of chips at the gas station? Charge it! My car and my RV insurance? Charge it! Cell phone bill? Propane bill?

...you get the idea.

United back 5-8 years ago used to get roundtrip international flights for 60k miles or so

Delta Nowdays i cant get a roundtrip international for any less than 125k miles

They now have a new system where now you dont get 1 mile per 1 mile flown, they go by price, so if you get a cheap flight, you get absolutely buttfucked on mileage

We have the points with American Express but they aint what they used to be so we really dont use it as much as we did. Do our best to keep it paid off or below 1k balance as well.

This is not a debt thread. For those of us who fly a ton need to really know how to use the system to benefit ourselves. Otherwise, the airlines are using their system to benefit themselves (at our expense)

Includes delta club membership plus gets you into all priority passes. It has most of the platinum benefits.

If you fly a lot the fee pays for itself. Shit I pay $900/year to have two of them and keep platinum status.

Ahhh i hear ya man, that is totally cool for you then. For me , i'm only wanting to benefit by piling up more mileage and spending using their CC on EVERYTHING that i'm buying/paying for already, and paying off the CC every month, thus gaining free miles

They rearranged their mileage program so much to fuck the customers a LOT more than before..... so i want to give a lil push back hehe

Uh Jscott you saying you didn't have a rewards card all these years? wtf!
Yea the Delta card isn't as great as it used to be, also consider the foreign transaction fee's of any cards you consider. Might be better off just getting a cash back card and using the $ rewards to buy flights rather than being tied to delta for reward flights.
https://www.yahoo.com/travel/the-top...218818247.html might help you.

I couldn't see this in the terms for the reserve card. $1 purchase on the card gets you 1 MQM?

Yeah, the worth of the points aint what it used to be, they keep increasing the qualifying amount every year. Getting worse and worse.

If in any calendar year Eligible Purchases on the Delta Reserve Credit Card are $30,000 or more, the Basic Card Member will be awarded 15,000 bonus miles and 15,000 Medallion Qualification Miles ("MQMs" as defined in the Delta SkyMiles Membership Guide and Program Rules). If in that same calendar year Eligible Purchases on the Delta Reserve Credit Card are $60,000 or more, the Basic Card Member will be awarded an additional 15,000 bonus miles and 15,000 MQMs.

You can stack the business and the personal card and buy 60k MQMs a year.
