So most drones fly on wifi... this going to be the same setup?

If so, going to get a wifi jammer and get me a bunch of packages... and some drones.

great just what we need. the noise and air pollution of millions of those things overhead.

can only hope rednecks and gangbangers use them as target practice and make that delivery model unsustainable.

Actually, only the cheaper & smaller drones fly on wifi. It's very limited and unreliable technology for control of aircraft.

Many do but others use GPS and cell networks.

Noise? You might be lucky to hear it if one lands next door and you are outside.
Air pollution? Are you kidding? Compared to a truck driving across town using up gas along the way.

But why? The drones are electric so they don't burn fuel. They'll be faster to get from point A to B. They will mean less traffic on the roads, so less accidents. You'll get your goods faster, and delivery prices will be less. Seems like lots of win to me.

Why? It will be distraction of private property and shooting a gun without a valid reason, so they will just go to jail.

The real interesting thing is when the range becomes 500 miles and the payload capacity is 1000 lbs.

then you and the girlfriend can load up and fly to the beach for the weekend....door to door

I have a drone, they sure are fun to fly.

I know there is a lot that can be done with these things.

I feel there is a lot to work out though with this drone delivery service. There are going to be a lot of these in the sky, im sure some will malfunction and crash or crash from something else.

Any body that thinks drones are going to deliver packages still believes in the tooth fairy. It's never going to happen, it's just promo juice Amazon cooks up once in while during holidays to get their name on the news. Unbelievable how many suckers Amazon takes in with this bullshit. Jeez.

"never" is a long time... it might not happen next year, or perhaps even 5 years from now, but eventually I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be done...

Ever hear a drone?

The electric motors and props make quite a bit of noise, add in a load and larger engines and props and you've got some decent decibels

Drones are the way of the future, and ‒ rather than let the air be clogged with unruly, unregulated unmanned robots ‒ the government is seeking to work with the private sector to create rules of the aerial road.

I think there are just way too many packages for drones to keep up. They would need 10K drones or some wild number and what about bad weather. It could rain like hell for 3 days in a row. Snowing and all that stuff has to cause some problems.
The amount of people to look after all these things.
Maybe the super rich may use them just to be different but that is it.
For now the drug cartels in Mexico will use them the most to fly drugs over the border and back at night without problems. One crashes in a super market parking lot with 6 pounds of meth not long ago LOL. Think about how many fly drugs over the border without a problem.
Nobody goes to jail, no risk no nothing if you know what you are doing.

I always wondered why we don't have all this crap under ground.

I live in the suburbs, and we don't have wires strung up all over the place. Power, Internet, TV cable, water; Even our sewage is hooked up under ground. Why not make it so that our garbage is underground too? Why not mail too?

I can't see our skies full of drones carrying shit around. And if you have a storm, well, no drones that day.

not saying it may happen in small enclaves where it's cool and somewhat practical, there are more places where it simply can't happen than can, anywhere near airports, stadiums, downtowns, urban areas. otherwise, it's a marketing gimmick, just like the nazi insignia on the subway amazon prime recently did.

and for me, the noise is outrageous. so annoying. it's like a gnat buzzing around your ear, and that's when it's 50 yards away.

Actually, they will allow it, they just have to make the rules for it first. The government and the private sectors very much want drones in the skies and it's going to happen.

And you should know "as a pilot" that there isnt a damn thing you can do about something flying over your property once the FAA says it is allowed, as they control the airspace and not a property owner. That's like saying I dont want your plane or the police helicopters flying over my property.

Right now the FAA says that to operate a drone the operator has to have eyes on it from the ground. Once out of sight of the operator it is violating the rules. That's one dealbreaker right off.

Yes there is. Ask the Florida Golf centers

On top of that.. FAA once spoke about having the drones only fly above roads, to keep it safe. But the Insurance industri but a stop to that

.. it wont happen.

Like SWOIT - it was a great idea as a consept, but in the real World, its not even close to being possible... yet
