Its good for indexing your site, but that's pretty much it.
Social signals are good when they come from well established profiles, but how much do they actually factor into ranking? Not much. They are too easy to manipulate.

I use my own links from twitter to my own sites & many big twitter players retweet my tweets, obviously this is good for traffic. But i've never backlinked from my site to twitter, not sure how this can be good for a website
