4K and VR. Is 3D officially dead ??

Seems like it to me. The one (and only) ever 3D channel here vanished a while ago. No other channnels were ever set up to support it. Yet so many people purchased 3D tv not too long ago, and was a major selling point with Sky at one point. Now it'seems it's gone. 3D movies in the cinema seem like a thing of the past now aswell. Not that I was ever interested in it anyway.

Everyone seems to be buying 4K tv's now so let's see how this goes.

VR seems to be ready to explode in a big way...

3D or stereo? Stereo vision was dead from the very beginning.

My father in law bought a 65 inch 3d tv last year for the cabin. Ive watched a few movies up there in 3d with the rechargeable glasses.

I personally don't like it. I think its distracting and takes away from the plot/script. That could be just because I am not used to it.

I have 4k Televisions and would take those any day over a 3d TV. My wife also says 3d gives her a headache so it would never be a good option in my house.

That's how I always felt at the cinema. I was spending too much time looking for the 3D "wow" factor in certain scenes, that I was probably paying more attention to that than the movie itself...

I only watch 3d blu rays in 3D. Watching non 3d with the tv in 3d adds depth but it's not worth it. I own 10 3D blu rays and about 4 or 5 of them are amazing in 3d.

It's not for everyone just like I doubt I will like VR. I don't like things strapped to my head.

Glad to see 3D go. 99.9% of all of the 3D in movies suck. I love the IMAX format but most of the movies they show are still in 3D. Given the choice I would take 2D IMAX over 3D any time. It brings nothing to the experience.

I have a 3D TV at home and like Madalton, I used it exactly once. 6 months after I bought the TV actually.

VR though is another story. While the first attempts at VR died a long time ago, the new VR is slick, cheap, and really good.

I know what you're saying...but keep in mind, that is EXACTLY what was being said about 3D a few years back.

the headset is just an intermediary stage. ultimately you will be surrounded by holograms or the images will be beamed directly in your head.

Drugs plus TV equals VR cybersex in Wild Palms ? Critical Commons

I've had a 3D TV for almost 2 years now, used the 3D feature once to watch Avatar with my wife and a few friends one night. 4K will be big, the prices of the TVs are already dropping fast so that in itself will mean people will buy the TVs, we just need the networks to adopt it more widely. As always, most likely sports will be the first major networks to broadcast widely in 4K then the rest will follow.

Did you see Avatar in 3D IMAX? You can't tell me that didn't add to the experience cause it was amazing when I saw it in 3D IMAX

3d was never about porn and I knew it would never take off..

Maybe in 3-5 years they will make 3d without glasses and it will make a comeback.

But you know whatever.. Go stroke your little dicks to the thought of VR and electric cars.. I'm still happy with my 3d and my gas guzzling v-8

3D is dead for the moment.

VR has far more possibilities, and will be huge in the computer game world.

It's very wrong in many ways to compare 3D and VR.

You just have to try both instead of just speculating on 3D

you can determine with a 100% success rate that whenever somebody compares VR to 3D, said person has never tried VR himself.

I'm going to quote Jay Allan from another forum on the subject of VR and porn:

"I doubt there is a single director in adult who is any more tech savvy (or geeky) than I am. My 4k tv is at least 10 years old now. My game setup has Atmos sound. I shoot from drones. I also shoot most of my films in 4k 2.40 aspect ratio. I use half a dozen different types of cameras and shoot on computer controlled stabilization platforms. We upgrade constantly because I can utilize the new technology that in most cases it has real world practical solutions. I was one of the very first directors to shoot DSLR style and as far as I know the first director in adult to shoot with anamorphic lenses. So I do know what I am talking about.

All that being said, why would I want to have to look at a tiny girl in a distorted fishbowl just so I can look around her apartment? Just Google “VR PORN” and tell me what you see. You think that is the future of porn? It is not. It is a half measure. VR is itself a very viable tech and will make billions. But like I said above, IN THE PORN CONTEXT it is CURRENTLY for curious people who have heard about VR porn and want to check it out. In other words porn VR is a gimmick. Real VR (not cartoons or distorted 180 degree fisheyes) requires too much processing power and bandwidth for current infrastructure. That is why for a while successful commercial products utilizing VR will be video games were a complete CG environment is expected. "

I thought VR porn was going to be the Next Big Thing, but from what I've seen so far I'm completely underwhelmed. Maybe the producers jumping into shooting VR so far have had more money than talent, but everything I've seen hasn't looked any better than, say, an average low-to-mid budget POV scene--which kinda makes sense: when you're spending a ton of money on equipment and post, you have less to spend on production.

After HD was introduced in the mid aughts, it took a while for directors to figure out how to shoot for it's enhanced capabilities and different aspect ratio, and it may just be that it'll take people a while to figure out VR. Or, it may be that VR porn--like the unlamented 3D porn before it--is, as Jay concludes, just a gimmick.

So far it's just a gimmick with porn because it's just panoramic videos that are panned by head movement. It gets much better than that, the hardware and bandwidth just isn't quite there yet.....

I have no doubt it will catch on at some point. But the question I ask myself is whether or not porn will be the catalyst for VR headset sales. My guess is the gaming industry, not porn, will be the industry that forwards VR technology.

Gamers who already have a headset might check some of the porn out. But I honestly cannot see people spending a bunch of money on a headset for porn specifically. VR needs a multitude of content producers across a wide variety of niches in order for it become commonplace. Frankly, I cannot imagine a bunch of people getting together in a room, wearing headsets, to watch the Superbowl, for example.

Most intriguing to me, however, is ROI. VR is not exactly cheap to produce. And every day we hear people lamenting the downturn in porn site memberships. Behind closed doors, there's certainly more than one company who has told me that sales are difficult to get these days. With the cost of VR porn production, I wonder if there will be enough people who will actually buy a VR headset and spend money on porn to return a positive ROI on the production.

Time will tell.

Personally, VR gives me an awful headache after a few minutes of using the headset, so for me it holds very little interest beyond the novelty of it. One can/would assume the tech will only get better, and more affordable.

As an affiliate what is the quickest, easiest and most profitable way to get into this niche.
Ideally not porn unless it pays well.

Write a good app, some people are complaining that the only things so far to use VR with are "shitty apps"..
