Bernie Sanders and Hillary are only 250 pledged delegates apart and there are still nearly 2000 to be won. The democrat races is very much in play. It's nearly a 50/50 split so if Hillary goes down in your fairytale, Democrats have someone just as strong if not stronger to take her place.

Kasich isn't going anywhere until at least the Pennsylvania primary on April 26. He has spent a lot of time and money there and is currently neck in neck with Cruz in the polls for second place, but still double digits behind Trump.

I think he feels like if he can somehow win Pennsylvania it will derail both Trump and Cruz from getting enough delegates to win the nomination outright and put him in a position where he can negotiate himself into a VP slot.
