Portugal runs for four days straight on renewable energy alone

Pretty neat!

Quote:
Portugal kept its lights on with renewable energy alone for four consecutive days last week in a clean energy milestone revealed by data analysis of national energy network figures.

Electricity consumption in the country was fully covered by solar, wind and hydro power in an extraordinary 107-hour run that lasted from 6.45am on Saturday 7 May until 5.45pm the following Wednesday, the analysis says.

I've seen pictures of this solar field a few years back & though how great it is. For countries with the sun & heat as Portugal & Spain has & the massive baron lands, it's a brilliant move on behalf of Portugal

Hopefully more and more places will learn from Portugal's success.

pointless drivel. as long as the population keeps exploding, renewables will be the least of mans problems. even renewables wont keep up with the mob of uselessness the planet is producing.

Today should be thought of as the good old days.

Portugals population is on the decline (stagnation mostly), also EU's population isn't raising that much, so that problem needs to be fixed in other countries (China, India)..

photovoltaic paint will be a game changer...when you can paint every house and roof and the roads and pavement...during the day the excess energy can power a gravity pump...during the night the water can run down through a turbine...

the ideal combo would be solar + heat pump for houses if the gravity pump is not practical...heat pumps can be land or air...

solar roof tiles will be the norm in the future too AJAJAJAJAJAAJAJ!

I was just watching Vice the other night...on a windy day in The Netherlands, they get 100% of their power through renewable energy. Mostly the offshore wind farms.

So what happened after the 4 days to make them go back to mixing in non-renewable energy? Was it some sort of fixed period trial, or did demand simply pick up at that point, so they had to bring in other sources?
