Apple TV or Roku 4?

Right now I have a few of the older models of Roku. Apple TV looks nice. My biggest use of Roku would be Netflix and Plex. Does Apple TV support Plex? Another thing I like about Roku is the downloadable app, I'm tired of having 5 different remote controls and would like to transition to a single smart phone only approach. The 4K capabilities seem attractive as well with the Roku.

Tips or comments?

Roku for sure. Our apple TV rarely gets used. The remote sucks. Roku remote and interface are both better. My house is noisy so the headphone jack on the remote is really nice to have too.

Amazon Fire Stick with Voice Remote

Ask it the weather, new movies etc. And it answers like Amazon Echo

I do not want a laptop sitting next to my TV. I'm leaning towards Roku, I'm not seeing any real advantage to Apple TV.

apple tv i dont like that you cant access a network share, if you have your content on a NAS, you have to have the media added in itunes, which i dont like.

I use a wdtv live, i can access a network drive with all my media on

I'm trying to make the same decision. I like my older Roku, but I want to steam Coursera and stuff like that.

I have both and by far the best is Apple TV 4.

If you have apple products, you can do a lot more with their ecosystem.

Roku is a great product but you can do less.

if appletv has plex, then you could use that, or use the usb drive slot on the appletv, but you are limited to whatever data can fit on the usb.

for $30 you can get a 128gb nano drive, which i use on my macbook pro, its not noticable.

I have an AppleTV 4, a Roku 4, and Android TV is built into my 2015 Sony.

AppleTV is by far the most refined / stable.

Roku has a bit more content, but I find the remote locks up much more often.

The AndroidTV has the most content options (espsecially with Plex, etc), but is also by far the least stable.

I find I end up using the Android TV for Netflix and Amazon as thats the best way of getting 4K HDR.

I use my AppleTV for anything 1080p, and I use Beamer.app for streaming mp4/mkv to it (with transcoding disabled -- passthrough only to reduce compression artifacts).

The Roku 4 is in the guest bedroom -- the primary reason is the color decoder on it is VERY inaccurate, with a very noticeable 'red push'. The Roku 4 is the only electronic device I've bought in the last few years that I actually regretted buying.
