Is having art work in your home "out of style"?
I helped a friend move some items over to the house of some well-off people and
the interior of the house just blew me away. The place was beautiful. The furniture was incredible. I left the place thinking "wow, this is what being rich is like". But I also remember not seeing even one piece of art. Not on a wall, not on a table; nada. And no, they didn't just move in; they've been in that house for years. Of course; there is no art gallery near them either.

One house is surely a big enough sample to make that conclusion.
My conclusion would have been: these people do not like art in their house. |

Some people just like a more minimalistic environment and artwork on the walls can be distracting if you are a minimalist.
Simple matter of personal taste and style. |

A house isn't a home without a scarface poster or that dogs playing pool painting.

I didn't collect much when I was wealthy, too busy with hookers and blow. Now that I'm a little poorer, I collect Quevedo and Ferjo and some others. I like the bright colors and the art-within-art, magic realism look. It's an expensive fucking habit though, I don't have a lot.

In our house, we have no art work on the walls anywhere. We spent some time looking around and were getting frustrated because we couldn't find what we liked, and then realized that everything was good just the way it was.
In my office, I have a couple of family pictures and some celeb autographs. But on another wall, I have a small piece of art that I made myself - a cute little framed thingie demonstrating the advance of technology. I like it. What I would suggest to anyone now though, is to create something yourself. Here's how: #1. Take a few pictures of the room you want to add a framed painting in. Try to use as much light as possible so you capture the colors properly. #2. Go to Photoshop, and let yourself go. Paint, draw, spash, whatever you like. #2-a: Use some colors from your room. color-pick off of your couch, wall, floor, etc. For even better color choices, go to https://color.adobe.com after you pick colors from your room and play with the complementary tool. #2-b: Make your picture in the actual size you want to print it in. If this is going to be a 3' by 4' picture, make sure this is the size you're working in Photoshop. #3. Copy-paste your new creation into a picture of your living room. Adjust it using Transform / Distort / Perspective to fit it properly on to your wall. Add a border for a frame. What do you think? How does it look? Experiment! Once you have what you want, get it printed. Most shops like Staples can print big pictures in high resolution and on multiple formats. Put it in a nice frame and voila! Beautiful art perfectly suited for your home, that you can be really proud of, for a low price.
