What would you do first if today was your day 1 in adult?

Hey guys,

If you had to start all over again in adult TODAY, what would you do first to achieve (£100/$120pm) on the side? Where would you start?

Any particular resources you'd go to first, to learn?

Would you set up an authority site? A forum (likely not)? Link List? Members site?

None of the above?

Interested to hear your thoughts

I would make 10 million dollars in 30 days. But I need a time machine to send me to 16 years back in time. Yes you have said "TODAY", but invention of the time machine is much more likely than making money in adult today

If you're not a hot girl live camming or running a clipstore, you pretty much have to be a talented programmer.

If you're a talented programmer, it's fucking easy, just look at sites that rank in google, figure out their business model and what they're doing, and do pretty much exactly what they do.

Build niche blogs. It's the quickest way to get some targeted SE traffic, although blogs don't rank for the big money terms.

Turn round and go work elsewhere. LOL

Seriously if I had to I would be using social media and be entertaining first and trying to get traffic second. If you have something people like watching, they will come, stay and buy.

When I was just my own affiliate in the begging it was pretty simple and fun. Would probably put more focus in custom offers like we do now.

Find a model and promote is the easiest way...set her up on a good camsite and promote her on tubes with mass upload software and manual submission by hiring Africans for 1$/day...

Let's talk about SEO for a minute. It's mostly a myth. Look at the kind of sites that rank in google for porn keywords. Tons of them have absolute shit on-page SEO and absolute shit backlink profiles. They don't rank because some SEO expert did some incomprehensible, sophisticated magic...they rank because they're engaging sites with good content that have good bounce rate and time on site metrics. You gotta have access to programming skill to create a site like that.

As far as marketing expertise? There's definitely guys with no technical skills who are very clever about using social media, blogging, targeted advertising, etc, to drive traffic to products. But they're just affiliates; they obviously don't make anywhere near as much money as the owners of the products they promote. And the people who created those products needed programming skills to do it.

Fair points, but lets take:

a) smart marketing guy. He can simply hire a programmer to do a job and reap all the benefits being site owner.
b) smart programmer. He can build the site and then what? Try to be marketing guy? Hire marketing guy?

a) option seems more likely to be a success and less hassle in my eyes.

In a similar manner as being a sales guy is much better than manufacturing guy in terms of who would be more likely to grow company (sales guy who simply hires manufacturer or manufacturer making the product himself).

Sales guys > production guys, imho.

I know something that works and quit well! You can start making insane money in 1-3 weeks! But why the hell would I tell you or ANYONE for that matter? More competition means less profit for me!

To some extent I agree with this, but it's only true if you have capital. Building, scaling, and maintaining a quality site that can actually compete is worth something on the order of $50k-$100k of programming time, and potentially a lot more. I know that sounds high when there's programmers on this forum offering their time for cheap as shit, but they can't actually create a quality, profitable site. If they could, they would; they wouldn't be selling their time for chump change. So if it's day one in adult for you, you're going to have a much easier time if you can program well than if you can't.

Also, remember that if a smart programmer makes a good site, he won't really need a marketing guy. Good sites tend to be successful. I'm proof of this--I started a tube aggregator a little over a year ago, and without anything but some cheap black-hat link packages it's getting over half a million users a day.

I'd quit on my first day and do social media and email marketing. Because I've seen the light, and it's not in adult. My partner already quit adult after being in it for 19 years and he was quite successful at it for a long time.

No matter how talented a person is at either of those. The deciding point comes when a person lands on the site and sees quality products or shit.

Neither of which is controlled by SEO or Marketing people.

A talented programmer isn't working for the money porn pays. There are far better-paying gigs than porn. How do I know? My brother is a very talented programmer and we employed them back in the day and they left for greener fields. The level of programming required to build a porn site is minimal.

No matter how the sales and marketing is, shit is still shit. This is 2016 not 1998. Get with the program.

As for hiring a content producer. Can you afford to compete with what the top companies pay? If not you end up with crap.

I mostly agree with what you're saying, but the level of programming required to build a porn site that will rank in google is not minimal. Sure, the paysites you were cranking out in 1998 were easy to build, but profitable sites these days are made by tech experts who understand things like scaling and data science.

Which gets back to my original point: If you want to make money in adult these days, the best way is to be a talented programmer who can look at what sites ranking in google are doing, and copy it. But like you said, that kind of programming talent won't work for the kind of money the average GFY user putting up cookie-cutter wordpress tubes and half-ass paysites can pay.
