Tech issue: Name Servers. Does it matter which I chose?

Since my current domain host now longer have free DNS service, I am forced to find a new host. That in mind, does it make a difference which host I chose, and which name server I am using for my domains?? Can it maybe be a problem if im in europe and using a name server for my domains in America? Can it cause any problems for website speed or SEO??

Why do you need your host to handle the DNS?

You can just set the DNS records directly at your DNS registrar (like at NameSilo, NameCheap, etc).

For the root domain and the "www", point the A record to the server IP. You'll probably also want to set an MX record, and maybe an SPF record.

Find out from your host if there's anything else you need to set. (For instance A records for a mail. or ftp. subdomain.)

(One thing that you still might need to set at your host, is a reverse DNS. They'll probably do that. It's not that crucial to my understanding though.
Some info about it here: What is "reverse DNS" and do I need it? - Simple DNS Plus )

No it doesn't. I suggest Cloudflare for DNS management. Make sure not to use their services for anything other than DNS, so turn off the cloud when you do it.

Apply for a free account at Cloudflare.com.

Add your domain there and get two nameservers from them.

Enter those two Cloudflare nameservers at your registrar where the domain is kept.

Do all necessary changes directly in Cloudflare from now on and have instant DNS propagation and fantastic DNS availability.
