All but two Democrats in the Maine House of Representatives reportedly voted down a legislative bill that would have outlawed a barbaric form of genital mutilation known as female circumcision.

After letting the bill sit and almost expire, 72 Democrats decided on the last day of the legislative session to vote in favor of scrapping the bill, meaning female genital mutilation will continue to be permitted in the Pine Tree State.

Christopher W. Babbidge from Kennebunk and Catherine M. Nadeau of Winslow were the only two defecting Democrats who resisted voting along party lines against the ban. Not a single Maine Republican voted against the ban.

Both of those articles are kind of confusing because both are biased. The problem with the law and the way it is now, it's difficult to prosecute under aggravated assault because you have a parent and the child consenting. The DA wanted to change the law to charge BOTH the parent(s) AND the person doing the mutilation with a felony which will make the cases easier to prosecute.

THIS IS DISGUSTING. Every modern country should be prosecuting those who carry these things out, even to the extent of exiling the parents. Britain has a law dealing with it, but so far nothing has been done. Cowards.

There's a big difference between loping off a clit and cutting some foreskin off. Plus there are many benefits of circumcision unlike FGM which serves no purpose.
