30 year old movies that stand the test of time…
Was just reading through the Back to the Future thread and remembering some good laughs…
I did watch Back to the Future a few years back and I still enjoyed it. Made the mistake of watching all 3 of the original Star Wars several years ago and now cannot stand any of them. Goonies I watched last year and was still laughing pretty hard. Love Sloth!

I watched Tombstone a couple of months ago. It is about 25 years old and I thought it still held up well.

Oh! I watched The Jerk a couple months ago. Was still laughing.
Watched Rocky series earlier this year, had never seen it before. There were ups and downs but overall was pretty good.

better off dead is still great. Fast Times At Ridgemont High is still a movie I might watch if it's on one of the cable channels. All the old Die Hard movies are still good. Lethal Weapon..
And I still like all the 1st Star Wars films

If you had to choose with a gun to your head, which would it be?
1. the Boot Camp part or 2. the Vietnam part. I'm going to have to go with Vietnam. So many quotable lines. Whenever someone uses the "no plot" criticism about any movie, you can always bring up Full Metal Jacket as proof that plot is not needed for a great movie. Sure, it has a narrative structure and theme, but there's not A to B plotting. And it's considered one of the great films of all time.

watch Rambo First Blood. Only watched it as a kid a dozen times or so. Finally saw it again as an adult a while ago, and realized how good that movie is. It surprised me!

![]() ...and Christmas movie! Quote:
\ Live Aliens. I tried watching Alien again a few times in the last few years and sadly it just doesn't hold up. It was scary at the time though. And Ash's talking head on the table is just too awful for me to believe anymore. The thing is one of my all-time favourite horror movies. Great story, amazing tension, and some of the best special effects in any movie. of course. Here's mine: They Live Altered States Prince of Darkness

Over Memorial Day Weekend they had the original Star Wars, Jaws and Raiders Of The Lost Ark on - all at the same exact time! I ended up switching between Star Wars and Raiders...maybe I have a Harrison Ford man crush (OK - I know I have a Harrison Ford man crush).
Field Of Dreams is great too. Just sayin'. ![]()

1970 (1973 the US release) the movie that all cosmonauts and astronauts watch before they go to the outer space: 1968 (a comedy): 1967 (yet another comedy):

Some stellar picks.
I'd argue that at least 75 pct. of all the movies I ever watched and even more that I prefer to re-watch are now 30 or more years old. If you'd want to be punctual then 1988 was also the year of many stellar Action movies: Red Heat - very well produced movie from the Golden Schwarzenegger era with major pace Rambo III - not that bad for a third installment and a trademark bow scene Nico - Steven Seagal debut and far better than 95 pct. of what his acting career produced Action Jackson Carl Weathers in a leading role, I wonder why he never got more leading roles. Also Vanity plays in the movie, and Sharon Stone. Bloodsport Van Damme in his prime I've got a big archive of action movies, many on original DVD's that nobody else would ever buy.

Yep, I liked "Bloodsport", "Red Heat" and "Commando" of course. My mom liked "Nico". "Rambo III" was a circus of one clown - never liked it, while "Rambo the First Blood" was a very good movie. And course "Star Wars"! For some absolutely unknown reason it was forbidden in the Soviet Union (you were unable to see it in the cinema), so we were watching it in co-called video-saloons from a TV screen, via pirate cable TV (yes, in the Soviet Union we had a pirate cable TV) or from a VHS of your friend (I've bought my first VHS player only in 1992).
To be honest, the most popular VHS movies in the Soviet Union in 80s were German porn movies. Every Soviet kid knew the phrase: "ja, ja, das ist fantastisch!" ))))))))))

One more scene from the Soviet Eastern. The Russian Easterns are like the US Westerns, but they are about East (Asia). Those guys are similar to the US Clint Eastwood personages (or maybe Chuck Norris, but filmed 2 years before the "Way of the Dragon"):
The Soviet soldier was going home to his wife after the Civilian War, but he's got a task to protect a harem of some Asian bandit.
