Republican Senators doing ass-backward things

Quote:
At a time when most governments are looking at ways to encourage electric vehicle adoption, a Republican senator has now introduced a new bill to end the $7,500 federal tax credit for electric cars and instead tax them more.

Senator John Barrasso, a Republican from Wyoming, introduced the bill this week.

They have to make up for the tax cuts for the rich some how. Plus they help their gas and oil corporate masters.

What exactly is growing more and more in Wyoming? It's the only state in the country that loses population every year.

Two things stood out:
"But the bill is backed by Democrats in a Congress and Senate"

So it's not just "Republican Senators" of that state. It's also Democrats.
Mark must have mistakenly missed that when he posted the topic. lol

And this:
"but I’m not well-versed enough in American politics to have a valuable opinion"

That is the writer of the article pointing out that not only is he not from the U.S., but also has no valuable opinion to give...but decided to give one anyway. lol

What's wrong about how much he overlooks is that he's not helping the sitch here by doing so. Nevermind Quebec just swung full right. whoops. I wonder if he took time off from posting propaganda at GFY and voted.

No, he is not working in the best interest of his state. The oil industry is dying. Pretty soon everyone is going to have electric cars being powered by a solar grid. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Pretty soon Wyoming will lose that income stream, along with the jobs. It will be very similar to what's happened to the coal industry. It will be devastating for states that produce a lot of oil.

This Senator is trying to help his state "right now" but isn't thinking twenty or fifty years down the road.

All of the oil companies are the same. The oil companies needs to stop thinking of themselves as "oil producing" companies and more of "companies that produce power for automobiles". And that is going to be solar power. Here in California new houses are being sold with solar power. Eventually our solar houses will be powering our electric cars. It's extremely cost effective (I haven't paid for power in over a year since I got solar because I produce more power than I use and sell it back to the power company) and it's obviously much better for the environment.

Instead of encouraging solar he is attempting to block it by taxing it. Eventually the oil industry will die, and all of those people will be working for solar companies. His residents will be enjoying free power and no longer have to pay for gasoline - which will only encourage more people to spend money.... They will save money by not having to pay for power, and road trips - vacations - will cost less because they don't have to spend money on gas.

You couldn't be more wrong! This has to be the most ludicrous thing I've ever seen you post.

the oil industry is fueling the fucking USA economy right now. We just became the #1 oil producing nation on the planet. The most valuable corps on the planet are oil corps. Not one single energy analyst agrees with you.

While I agree that gas and oil aren't going away anytime soon, I do believe they are yesterday's fuel sources and we should be moving away from them towards the future.

However, as much gas and oil as we use, there is only one oil company even in the Top 20 of the Forbes Fortune 500. Exxon is #8. The Top 5 are Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Facebook.

Yes. Fucking really. Jtfc. Thoae links don't prove jack crap. the space alone required for solar panels to replace fossil fuel energy makes it completely impossible.

The fact you don't even know that reveals your ignorance on the matter.

It won't happen overnight, and we will likely have some gas and oiled powered stuff for decades down the road. We don't just give up on something that is a foundation of our economy and existence overnight. My hope is that we will get away from using it as a fuel and move more towards renewable, clean fuels. I understand that a lot of products are made using it and still will be until a replacement is found.

It's a process. I would like to see us start the process sooner than later.

By the way... Did everyone see the news about Tesla today? It seems Tesla sold more cars in the US than Mercedes did last quarter.

It will literally be generations before the planets segues away from fossil fuels. We'll prolly have destroyed ourselves before we can ween ourselves off fossil fuels. For many many reasons.

The process has already started imo. I'm not arguing that. Renewable energy is real and growing. But displacing oil and gas? That's ridiculous.

Gas (meaning oil) will never go away completely. Right now it powers 98% of our transportation. Eventually 98% of our transportation needs will be electric. The technology is getting better and better, range is getting better, it's cost effective, and it's better for the environment.

Everyone is going to be on board with this. How can they not be? You won't have to pay for power for your house ever again, and you will never need to buy gas for your car again. Ever.

Electric vehicles are basically a scam and this bill recognizes that. There are no environmental benefits when you factor in charging with coal-fired power and the mining for the rare metals, which is destructive and pollutes toxic chemicals.

"manufacturing an electric vehicle generates more carbon emissions than building a conventional car"

TESLA'S ELECTRIC CARS AREN'T AS GREEN AS YOU MIGHT THINK

It seems the Republicans are the party of common sense.

You don't seem to understand how this works so allow me to plain.

We have solar panels on our house, and always produce more power than we use - a lot more really. Whatever we don't use is sold back to the power company. I don't pay the power company anything, instead, the power company pays me for the power I produce.

We do have a loan for the solar panels, but every month we make more than monthly payment. So we make a small profit every month.

Winning.

This thread is classic Mark. Comes in with a BS clickbait article taking pot shots at republicans. Gets shown that he is wrong in a big way. Hides and will post some more bullshit tomorrow.

Facts from the 2018 BP Statistical Review of World Energy:

1. The world achieved a new oil production record of 92.6 million barrels per day (BPD), which is the 8th straight year global oil production has increased. The United States was the world's top oil producer in 2017, exceeding 13 million BPD* for the first time ever. Saudi Arabia was second at 12.0 million BPD, while Russia came in at 11.3 million BPD.

2. Oil consumption also set a new record of 98.2 million BPD. U.S. consumption rose by 1.0%, and still leads the world at 19.9 million BPD. China's demand rose by 4% to a new record of 12.8 million BPD.

3. Global natural gas production jumped 3.0% to a new record of 355 billion cubic feet per day. The U.S. led all countries in both production and consumption of natural gas.

o&g aren't dead, they're growing. and that's in spite of renewables growing at the same time.

again, it's completely ridiculous to claim oil is dead and that's for many reasons, not the least of which are the facts above.

It is debatable whether tax credits on electric cars is necessary anymore. That industry seems to have developed enough to sustain itself towards great future success.

Though I am very skeptical when people say that all cars will be electric powered. I just don't see how electric vehicles fit into the lives of low income (and many middle class) drivers that buy older cars. Today you can get a reliable $1,000 gas engine car. There will never be an electric car equivalent of that.
